Tang Qisheng's heart leaped into his throat. The group of orderlies had finally managed to trick someone out, and the consequences of leaving the room were all too easy to imagine.
"It's so dark."
"Careful, ma'am. Hold on to my hand and lift your foot."
"Come on, this way."
Footsteps scraped slowly across the floor outside.
To Tang Qisheng's surprise, the old woman who'd been tricked out of her room wasn't killed immediately. From the sound of it, she was indeed being helped toward them.

Could it be that those things weren't trying to kill people, and only wanted the special patients?
Or maybe... all of this outside was fake, staged by those ghostly things. There was no old woman at all. The old woman hiding in the room hadn't said a word; those things were just trying to trick him!

All sorts of guesses crowded his mind, leaving Tang Qisheng completely confused for a moment. But he'd made up his mind: he wasn't going outside. He'd stay put and adapt to whatever came.
There was still someone hiding in the room. That person was probably the so-called special patient, but so far, they hadn't actually hurt him or Zhu Jie. If he went out that door, though, Tang Qisheng was certain he'd meet a bad end.
The footsteps outside were slow and full of probing hesitation, as though they were trying to wear down the two of them one step at a time.
"Patients in Room 206, listen up. If you cooperate with our investigation now, we'll let what just happened slide."
"Otherwise, if we go in and find that you're
