"Damn it." Huai Yi twisted his head and cursed under his breath. "This ghost is like a dog, it just won't let us go."
The "pata-pata" footsteps behind them were like a death knell, constantly reminding them that every second they spent here, someone wanted them dead.
Wanted them dead.
Huai Yi quickened his pace, noticing Jiang Cheng was a bit slower, and urged him, "Brother Jiang, hurry up. I feel like this ghost is getting weirder."
Hearing this, Jiang Cheng looked up at him and asked, "You feel it too?"
Huai Yi swallowed, staring intently behind them, and said quickly, "Its positioning on us is getting more accurate. It was just circling us before, and now it's right near us."
"It's more than that," Jiang Cheng said rapidly. "Listen carefully to the direction of the footsteps. It's been tracking us, following the exact path we took."
Huai Yi's face changed. He had just compared the ghost to a dog; did it really have the tracking ability of a bloodhound?
Could it smell their scent?
Suddenly, he noticed Jiang Cheng had gone silent, staring at his feet.
"Wh-what's wrong?" He had a bad feeling.
"Your shoes are wet," Jiang Cheng said.
"Shoes?" Huai Yi looked down and saw his shoes were indeed wet. He recalled, "It must have been when I pulled Brother Fugui in the shower room."
The swimming pool was surprisingly cold. He was frozen stiff, his lower legs numb, relying entirely on willpower to keep going. He hadn't paid attention.
"Walk forward a few steps," Jiang Cheng instructed.
"Are you going to mention footprints?" Huai Yi showed a look of relief. "Brother Jiang, don't worry about that. I checked. There are no footprints on the path we walked."
"I told you to walk a few steps, hurry!"
