The Elevator

He would do everything he could to keep Lin Muwan and her brother, Lin Muyun, alive.

After he comforted Lin Muwan, she gradually calmed down. From beginning to end, all she had shown was a steadfast concern for her brother and her companions. She had never panicked and caused trouble for everyone.

A moment later, Lin Muwan picked up her notebook and wrote another line. Then she slowly raised it, her slightly reddened eyes fixed on Jiang Cheng's face.

"I don't want anything to happen to you, either."

Seeing the hastily written words, Jiang Cheng felt his heart twitch before he knew it.

The words in the notebook read more like an order. Lin Muwan's lovely eyes were filled with the purest concern, and wisps of hair clung to her face. For a moment, the scene was so moving it felt like something out of a movie.

Looking at Lin Muwan, Jiang Cheng couldn't help reaching out to smooth the stray hairs from her forehead.

Strength and timidity, two completely different emotions, showed on her face at once. Strangely, they didn't seem out of place at all.

But Jiang Cheng's fingers stopped when Lin Muwan instinctively dodged his hand. She seemed unaccustomed to such intimate contact with anyone other than her brother.

Jiang Cheng felt awkward. He rarely encountered situations like this, so he could only pretend not to mind, withdraw his hand, and look away.

Not far from them was a window. Raindrops kept pattering against the glass, and if they listened closely, they could hear the steady crackle.

Jiang Cheng frowned. The rain had grown heavier again without them realizing it. The last time he had checked, it had already let up, making it seem like it would stop soon.

Just as he feared, the worst had happened.
