At that, Zhou Tong's lips tightened. She seemed to want to say something, but when she looked toward the Lin siblings, she hesitated, a conflicted look appearing in her eyes.
"We've already escaped from the Yourun Building. Why hasn't the mission ended?" This was what Jiang Cheng cared about most. He couldn't make sense of it.
"Brother Jiang." Huai Yi cut in with an odd expression. "The mission... the mission is actually over."
Jiang Cheng noticed that after he asked the question, everyone's eyes had turned toward the backpack in his hands. They all looked rather strange.
Curious, Jiang Cheng opened the backpack. Inside were an alarm clock, a black velvet pouch, and a flat wooden box slightly larger than a pencil case.
The pouch rustled when he picked it up. Jiang Cheng squeezed it and immediately guessed what was inside. When he poured it out, sure enough, it was a pile of ID badges.
There were eight in all, one for everyone here.
This time, each badge even had its owner's photo, presumably to keep them from picking up someone else's by mistake.
After putting the badges away, Jiang Cheng reached in again and took out the wooden box.
The first thing he noticed when he held it was how light it was—so light it felt empty. Near the edge of the box, Jiang Cheng found a line of tiny writing.
The words were too blurry to make out, except for the two in the middle: "decision-making."
He fiddled with the box for a while but couldn't find a way to open it. There wasn't even a seam. Jiang Cheng reached into the bag again, took out the alarm clock, and tried to see if there was something unusual about it.
But the moment his fingers touched the clock,
