"We can rule out No. 3 as a suspect, too." Fu Fu said loyally. "I can vouch for you. That leaves only No. 2 and No. 1."
"One of those two was the masked man who injured me," Luo He said suddenly.
Fu Fu's hand jerked, and the IV bottle fell to the floor and shattered. "How could that be... Are you sure?!" She hadn't spent much time with No. 1 or No. 2, but she still didn't want to believe either of them could have gone so far against their own.
"The masked man is more skilled than either of us. Only a handful of Night Watch members have that kind of skill, and he isn't one of them." Luo He rested a hand on the book, the light in his eyes slowly fading. "He hid his presence well and never showed much of what he could do, but I still feel like I know him. We're... very familiar with each other."
"What proof do you have?" Fu Fu asked, her expression turning serious.
Luo He opened his shirt, revealing a body wrapped up like a dumpling. "Forty-seven cuts. Every one of them avoided a vital spot. I don't know which Night Watch member would be so merciful to me."
"No. 8," Luo He added. "He didn't want to kill me. He saved me."
Fu Fu shuddered. She vaguely remembered that after saving her, Luo He had planned to fully open the door inside him and die alongside the Chief Justice. If the masked man hadn't intervened, No. 3 would indeed be dead.
From the Night Watch's perspective, the masked man had not only saved the Chief Justice but also dealt a heavy blow to Crimson No. 3, "killing" him. He had been a very dependable ally.
