"Did it... still happen?" Lei said to himself, surprised by his own tone. There was unmistakable regret in it.
Ever since he'd crossed over, he'd put on a show of bravado on the surface, but in truth, he'd only been trying to intimidate potential enemies so he could keep lying low. He'd kept at it all the way to godhood, and little had changed.
Admittedly, it felt great to have such strategic focus, wait for potential allies to fall apart without a fight, swiftly claim their legacies, and force their gods to surrender. It was an effortless way to get what he wanted.
And the mental effort it took was beyond what anyone else could imagine.
Yet, just before he crossed the threshold to God King, Lei felt a strange sense of incompletion. Was this really enough for me?

For no apparent reason, Lei thought of the famous God of Thunder, Thor. In terms of age alone, Brother Thor was at least several thousand years older than him. "Nothing. If the Asa God System can't even protect its own God King, then it has no right to sit at the table. Even if his successor stands before me, he belongs at the children's table."
Whether the Asa God System's military strength mattered or not, such a steep loss of prestige made it impossible for Lei to think highly of them.
Even if Lei were willing to lower himself, the chief gods under his command wouldn't stand for it. Our god system has nearly a thousand gods, great and small, and we've been invincible lately. Why should we go out of our way for you Asa losers?
