Background / History

Yu Xiaogang was born as the son of Yu Yuanzhen, sect master of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan. Raised as a core heir expected to inherit the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon martial soul, he instead awakened the detached and malformed Luo Sanpao at age six, along with only half a level of innate soul power. The clan regarded Luo Sanpao as a wasted martial soul, while Yu Xiaogang endured ridicule and progressed far more slowly than his peers. 348

At sixteen, he left the clan for the Advanced Soul Master Academy of Martial Soul Hall, hoping its records and resources could offer a solution to his mutation. There he became Xia Yang's roommate after discovering that Xia Yang also possessed a mutated martial soul and half-level innate soul power. The two quickly became close friends and research partners. 42 348

With Xia Yang's encouragement, Yu Xiaogang began training Luo Sanpao to meditate independently outside his body. Yu Xiaogang later prepared to marry Liu Erlong, only to learn immediately before the ceremony that she was his cousin. He abandoned the wedding and wandered the continent. When Liu Erlong later married Xia Yang, Yu Xiaogang's jealousy and regret deepened. 349

After Xia Yang became the Sea God, Yu Xiaogang's soul power stalled at level 69. His clan eventually confined him alongside Yu Luomian, treating his betrayal of Xia Yang as a stain on the family. After more than a decade, he was released and resumed wandering. 349

He eventually reunited with Flender in Suotuo City and agreed to help Flender's disciple Ma Hongjun suppress his unstable Evil Fire Phoenix mutation in the Extreme North Land. When Ma Hongjun lost control at level 49, Yu Xiaogang was unable to withstand him in the extreme cold and was killed by his evil fire. Flender and Ma Hongjun concealed his death, and his name gradually faded from public memory. 350

Yu Xiaogang was a lean, physically trained young man with shoulder-length black hair, darker skin, and taut musculature beneath his blue fitted clothing. Despite his slight build, he carried himself with a sharp, energetic air rather than the dejection expected of someone branded a failure. 42
