In the Original Work, Blue Silver Grass was merely the most ordinary Useless Martial Soul. Although the Blue Silver Emperor was powerful, it was still only at the level of a Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Beast and had never been directly connected to a god.
But that was the Original Work.
This world was far more complicated than he had imagined.
Footsteps came from outside the tent, followed by Claude's voice: "Your Majesty, someone from the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect has arrived. Sect Master Ning requests your presence."
Lan Aotian rose and walked out of the tent.
Claude was wrapped in bandages, and his face was still somewhat pale, but his spirits were fairly good.
Nearly half of the guards had been killed or wounded in last night's battle, but both he and Jason, the two cardinals, had survived. That was already a blessing.
"Understood."
Lan Aotian walked toward the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect's camp.
Inside the camp, the guards were packing their belongings and preparing to set out.
After last night's attack, their defenses had been significantly strengthened. There were twice as many visible and hidden sentries as before.
Inside Sect Master Ning's Main Tent, the fragrance of tea drifted through the air.
Lan Aotian lifted the curtain and entered, only to see Ning Fengzhi sitting across from Chen Xin, drinking tea.
Ning Rongrong sat to the side with a book in her hands, but she kept stealing glances at Lan Aotian. Her little face was filled with curiosity.
"Brother Lin, you've arrived. Please, have a seat." Ning Fengzhi rose to welcome him.
Lan Aotian sat down and got straight to the point. "Sect Master Ning, you asked Lin here. Is something the matter?"
Ning Fengzhi smiled and did not beat around the bush. "I have thought over last night's events again and again, and I always feel that they were not simple. Do you have any leads regarding the God-given Item mentioned by the killer, Brother Lin?"
Lan Aotian looked at him but did not answer immediately.
As Sect Master of the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect, Ning Fengzhi was clearly not asking out of mere curiosity.
The Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect had operated for hundreds of years, and the foundation and intelligence it had accumulated far exceeded what an Ordinary Person could imagine.
If there truly were Secrets related to gods, it was impossible for them to know nothing about them.
"What does Sect Master Ning know?" Lan Aotian asked in return.
Ning Fengzhi pondered for a moment before slowly saying, "Our Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect has passed down an ancient secret through the generations."
He paused, seemingly considering his wording.
"It is said that in ancient times, gods once descended upon the continent."
"They left behind inheritances, as well as relics."
"But most of those relics were lost or destroyed over the long years. Only a few remain scattered throughout the mortal world."
"The most famous among them are the Angel God's Six-Winged Scepter, the God of the Sea's Trident, and..."
He looked at Lan Aotian, his gaze deep. "The Asura God's Asura Demon Sword, among others."
Lan Aotian's eyes flickered slightly.
The Angel God, the God of the Sea, and the Asura God.
These were precisely the three most important God Positions in the Original Work.
"But these are all tokens of God Position inheritances, and they already have owners."
Ning Fengzhi continued, "The Angel God's Six-Winged Scepter is in the hands of the Qian Clan of Spirit Hall. The God of the Sea's Trident is said to be somewhere overseas, while the Asura Demon Sword... has vanished without a trace."
He looked at Lan Aotian. "Brother Lin, do you think the item hidden among this shipment is one of those three?"
Lan Aotian shook his head.
"No."
He took out the Stone Box and placed it on the table.
"Before the killer confessed, Lin had already obtained this from one of the attackers."
Ning Fengzhi and Chen Xin simultaneously turned their eyes toward the Stone Box.
The Stone Box was gray and utterly unremarkable, but upon closer sensing, one could detect an extremely obscure energy fluctuation.
That fluctuation was unlike any Soul Power they knew. It was more ancient and more profound.
Chen Xin's gaze sharpened. "This is..."
He reached out and gently touched the Stone Box.
The instant his fingertip touched it, the dim runes on its surface suddenly lit up!
Although the glow vanished in a flash, the abruptly erupting energy fluctuation caused Chen Xin's finger to spring back instantly!
A trace of shock flashed across his aged face.
"Divine Aura!"
Ning Fengzhi abruptly rose to his feet!
Divine Aura!
Those four words carried immense weight!
They meant that this Stone Box was truly connected to a god!
Lan Aotian looked at Chen Xin, his gaze deep. "Sword Douluo, you can identify Divine Aura?"
Chen Xin slowly withdrew his hand and looked at the Stone Box with a complicated expression. "When I was young, I was fortunate enough to see the Angel God's Six-Winged Scepter from afar. That aura was unlike any Soul Power in the world. Once experienced, it would never be forgotten."
He looked at Lan Aotian. "The aura on this Stone Box resembles that of the Six-Winged Scepter in some ways, yet it is also different. It is more... ancient and gentler, as if it were connected to life itself."
Lan Aotian's heart stirred.
Connected to life itself?
He recalled that familiar feeling he had sensed.
Could it be... that this Stone Box is connected to the Goddess of Life?
The Douluo God Realm indeed had a Goddess of Life.
She was one of the Five Great God Kings, in control of the Law of Life and standing alongside the God of Destruction as one of the God Realm's supreme existences.
But the Goddess of Life's God Position inheritance had never appeared in the mortal world.
Nor was there any record in the Original Work of the Goddess of Life's relics being passed down.
If this Stone Box had truly been left behind by the Goddess of Life...
A sharp glint flashed through Lan Aotian's eyes.
Then his path to godhood might have an entirely new choice.
At some point, Ning Rongrong had edged closer. Her little head poked toward the table as she curiously examined the Stone Box.
"What a pretty box," she muttered softly.
Lan Aotian glanced at her but did not stop her.
Ning Fengzhi took a deep breath and suppressed the shock in his heart before looking at Lan Aotian. "Brother Lin, this Stone Box... how do you plan to handle it?"
Lan Aotian put the Stone Box away, his expression calm. "Since Lin obtained it, Lin will naturally decide what to do with it. Sect Master Ning, rest assured. Lin will not become enemies with the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect over this."
Ning Fengzhi breathed a sigh of relief.
What he feared most was that Lan Aotian would become estranged from the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect because of this Stone Box.
Now that Lan Aotian had taken the initiative to state his position, he was naturally more than happy.
"Brother Lin, you flatter me." He smiled. "Although our Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect is somewhat interested in this Stone Box, a gentleman does not take what another person cherishes. If you need help in the future, Brother Lin, our sect will certainly offer its fullest assistance."
Lan Aotian nodded. "Thank you."
He paused before continuing, "However, there is something I would like to ask Sect Master Ning."
"Please, go ahead."
"If there truly is a God-given Item among that shipment, who does Sect Master Ning think would want to seize it?"
Ning Fengzhi pondered for a moment before slowly saying, "Spirit Hall is divided into numerous factions, but anyone capable of mobilizing so many powerful experts for an ambush is definitely not an ordinary Red Robe Cardinal. The most likely possibility..."
He looked at Lan Aotian and said each word clearly, "is someone from the Worship Hall."
The Worship Hall.
Spirit Hall's most mysterious and most powerful institution.
It enshrined every Title Douluo from Spirit Hall's history, and each one was at least a Level Ninety-Five super-strong expert.
Its master, Qian Daoliu, was a Ninety-Nine Rank Peerless Douluo and the guardian of the Angel God.
If the Worship Hall had truly made a move...
A trace of worry appeared in Ning Fengzhi's gaze as he looked at Lan Aotian.
"Brother Lin, if this truly was the work of the Worship Hall, then this escort mission of yours may be..."
Lan Aotian's expression did not change. He merely smiled faintly.
"So what?"
Ning Fengzhi froze.
So what?
Those four words had been spoken lightly, yet they carried an indescribable confidence and domineering presence.
It was as if, in his eyes, the Worship Hall was nothing special.
Chen Xin gave Lan Aotian a deep look, and a rare smile appeared on his aged face.
"Interesting."
He picked up his teacup and drained it in one gulp.
"Young Man, if that day truly comes, Old Man would like to see how far you can go."
Lan Aotian looked at him and likewise picked up his teacup.
"That day will come."
The two exchanged smiles, everything understood without words.
Outside the tent, sunlight spilled across the ground, driving away the chill of the night.
A new day, a new journey.
And the center of the storm was drawing closer, step by step.
