Xi Yan left Whitebeard to fight the Marines, but returned in time to shield Luffy from Akainu’s attack. Akainu’s magma punched through Xi Yan, and Ivankov feared Xi Yan’s immortality had failed.

• Boa Hancock retreated rather than continue fighting Xi Yan while Whitebeard was nearby, and Sengoku ordered the Marines to attack Whitebeard.
• Xi Yan joined Whitebeard, learned that he planned to sink Marineford with himself, and agreed to leave with Bartholomew Kuma.
