Just as Yveta, Black Wolf, and the Old Witch were dumbfounded, the door was smashed open by a warhorse clad in full steel barding. A knight wrapped in several layers of plate armor, so fat he looked potbellied, sat atop the horse. He held an off-hand Slashing Sword in his left hand and a Knight Lance in his right, glaring furiously at the three people in the room.
"Hearthstone Witch, you will pay for the people you killed."
"I have searched for you for twenty years. Today is the day you die."
"You and your accomplices will all perish today!"
Demon Hunter Black Wolf drew the greatsword at his waist. "They're Church knights. This man should be a local lord."
"Possibly a lord of the Black Mountain Kingdom."
Yveta was a prince of the Arthas Kingdom, while the Black Mountain Kingdom was famed for its mountainous terrain.
Unlike the Arthas Kingdom, however, the Black Mountain Kingdom was said to be truly ruled by the Black Mountain Archbishop, the most powerful head of a regional church under the Church.
The Demon Hunter blocked the Great Boar Knight's incoming off-hand weapon with his greatsword. "My prince and I have nothing to do with this witch. If you want to kill her, kill her!"
The Great Boar Knight burst into laughter. "With evil creatures gathered here, cutting you all down together will better display my achievements."
"Thanks to you, I can advance further and become an even more powerful Holy Knight."
"Thank you."
Yveta's heart sank.
I thought you were some righteous knight. Turns out you want to cut us down too, pass our corpses off as the witch's accomplices, and use that to add to your merits.
How dirty!
Are all Church people this corrupt?
The Great Boar Knight and the Demon Hunter exchanged over a dozen blows. In the end, the Great Boar Knight kicked Demon Hunter Black Wolf in the chest, sending Black Wolf crashing into a cabinet in the room.
Meanwhile, the Old Witch took the opportunity to mutter an incantation while throwing a bottle of peas she carried onto the floor.
The peas on the ground sprouted tiny shoots, which then grew wildly into vines as thick as an adult's wrist.
The vines lashed at the Great Boar Knight like whips.
When the vines struck the Great Boar Knight's chest, his thick plate armor caved in directly, and he fell from his horse.
The Old Witch laughed shrilly. "Every strike from these vines can shatter stone."
"Good thing you're a Great Knight. Ordinary people would have been turned into meat paste already."
Yveta looked at the Boar Knight, who was cutting through one vine. He had actually pinned the vine to the wall with his off-hand weapon.
It seemed that whether witches, knights, or Demon Hunters, none of them were ordinary people.
For ordinary people, even taking part in these people's battles was extremely dangerous.
Like himself, for example.
The Great Boar Knight looked coldly at the Old Witch and whistled. From outside the manor came the sound of hooves everywhere.
The Old Witch screamed. "Oh no, he actually summoned a Knight Order."
"I'm no match for them!"
"Every member of these Knight Orders has consumed a Seed of Life, undergone organ ascension, and possesses an Extraordinary Heart."
"I have to run for my life!"
The Old Witch turned and crashed through the glass window, jumping directly from the second floor as she fled.
In the severely damaged room, only Yveta, Demon Hunter Black Wolf, and the Great Boar Knight remained.
The Great Boar Knight looked at Yveta and Demon Hunter Black Wolf as though they were already dead. "Gentlemen, for the sake of my promotion, please allow me to cut you down beneath God's witness."
"May I?"
"Thank you."
Thank my ass!
Yveta rolled his eyes. There was no way he would become the stepping stone of this black-hearted knight.
"Black Wolf, take me and run!" Yveta said to the Demon Hunter he had hired.
Black Wolf rushed over, grabbed him, smashed through the window, and leaped down from the second floor.
Behind them came the Great Boar Knight's gloomy voice. "A useless noble and a filthy Demon Hunter—where do you think the two of you can run?"
"My men are all below."
"You cannot escape."
Demon Hunter Black Wolf held Yveta and landed steadily on the ground.
He swept his gaze around and found the manor filled with Iron Armor knights mounted on warhorses. These knights wore bucket helms, with only pairs of bloodthirsty, greedy eyes exposed. Like evil ghosts, they were burning and looting the manor.
The manor's silver-plated cups and gold-plated dishes were calmly stuffed into the knights' pockets.
The manor's wooden fences and house walls were destroyed by these extraordinary knights.
Yveta was utterly speechless. This manor was all he had at the start, yet not long after waking up, it was being destroyed by this group of knights.
"Your Highness, what do we do now?" Black Wolf, the Demon Hunter, was also at a loss. "Where do we run?"
Yveta sharply noticed that the Old Witch had somehow stolen an Ox Cart from the manor and was driving it toward the exit.
"Black Wolf, let's get on that Old Witch's Ox Cart."
He shouted at the Old Witch, "That Ox Cart is my property! Hey, hey, stop right there!"
He had only meant to try, but to his surprise, the Old Witch shuddered when she heard him, then turned the Ox Cart around and drove back.
Demon Hunter Black Wolf puzzledly took Yveta and jumped onto the Ox Cart.
Black Wolf found it strange. Why would witches, who were notorious for having no credibility, risk their lives to come back and save them?
Besides, this witch was neither a subordinate loyal to Yveta nor someone he had hired.
She had no reason to specifically return.
Could it really be because she felt embarrassed about stealing an Ox Cart?
In a shrill, piercing scream, the Old Witch said, "Your Grace, I absolutely did not mean to infringe upon your property."
"I owe you an Ox Cart. I will certainly pay you the compensation I owe you."
"Before the Hell Gods and Abyss Demons, I make an Oath of Repayment to you!"
Now both Yveta and Demon Hunter Black Wolf realized from the Old Witch's unusual attitude that something was wrong.
The Old Witch seemed to regard Yveta as some sort of being. In any case, she was extremely wary of him. When Yveta said the Ox Cart was his property and she could not take it, the Old Witch had actually taken his casual remark seriously.
No matter what, at this moment, Yveta seemed to be a greater threat in the Old Witch's eyes than the Boar Knight Order.
Otherwise, the Old Witch would not have risked returning to take them onto the Ox Cart before fleeing.
Because the Ox Cart had turned around and returned, the knights of the Boar Knight Order caught up with them.
As the Ox Cart raced forward, it was gradually surrounded by five warhorses. Five knights raised five cold Knight Spears, about to tear the Ox Cart apart.
Yveta was somewhat worried, but at that moment, the witch suddenly stood up and raised her right hand. A Jade Green Ring on her right hand emitted a cold, eerie glimmer.
"In the name of the Hearthstone Great Witch and Guardian of Hearthstone City, I command you..."
The flesh of the Old Witch's right hand shriveled at a frightening speed. With just those words, that arm appeared to have aged twenty years.
"I command you: you cannot pursue any Ox Cart or carriage I drive;"
"You cannot see me or those beside me, cannot touch me or those beside me, and cannot track me or those beside me!"
"Evil Law is protected by the Dark Queen!"
When she finished speaking, her entire Right Arm directly aged and withered into a shriveled husk, then snapped apart.
However, the Jade Green Ring on her right hand suddenly erupted in green flames. The air around them rapidly turned cold, and the light dimmed, as though dark clouds had gathered overhead on a rainy day.
A woman's miserable scream came from inside the emerald ring.
[Law Established!]
The ring fell onto the wooden floor of the Ox Cart.
Suddenly, a woman's hand with even its skin black appeared out of thin air beside the ring, grabbed it in its palm, then withdrew and vanished within the Ox Cart.
The knights who had been relentlessly pursuing them now had unfocused pupils, as though they could no longer see them. They actually made their warhorses stop, then searched around in bewilderment.
The Old Witch turned around and drove the Ox Cart with her remaining left hand, muttering, "What a loss, what a loss. I came out this time and lost everything. I got nothing, yet lost twenty years of my lifespan and my right hand."
"I also lost the ring the Star Queen gave me. That ring had enhanced my magic power by at least ten years!"
"And I've gotten myself into enormous trouble."
She secretly glanced at Yveta.
You're that enormous trouble.
Yveta did not notice and waved to her. The mysterious, wondrous magic from before had truly opened his eyes.
Yveta even began considering learning magic from the Old Witch.
Yveta asked the Old Witch, "So, under your magic, those knights will never catch up again?"
Before the Old Witch could speak, Demon Hunter Black Wolf immediately refuted him. "The enemy is a Great Knight above ordinary knights, the commander of the Boar Knight Order. I have long heard that he is extremely vindictive."
"The Seed of Life he consumed should be the Seed of Life of the Grand Duke of Black Mountain's Large Flower Luli. I heard that knights who consume this Seed of Life become stronger, and their tempers are affected as well, becoming more violent."
"The knight path followed by the Great Boar Knight should be the hereditary Boar Knight. The knight secret medicine he consumed should be from the Boar Secret Medicine Series."
"He is a Great Knight with at least six extraordinary organs. Do not think that escaping from him just now means we defeated him. We were merely lucky. Sooner or later, he will catch up to us."
The Old Witch gave a sly laugh as she drove the Ox Cart. "I never expected your kind of sorcery-modified race to possess such knowledge."
"That is right. The magic I cast just now was, at most, a powerful illusion. It cannot trap them for long, otherwise I would not still be running."
"The Great Boar Knight has a Pig Nose from the Life Element Structure. He can smell anyone he wants to track. Sooner or later, he will catch up with us, and he has already seen you. He has remembered your scents."
The Old Witch calculated the possibility of using a Subspace Demon God to eliminate the Boar Knight Order.
Her eyes kept flicking toward Yveta.
Yveta suddenly said to the Old Witch, "I want to learn magic. Can you teach me?"
Black Wolf instinctively stopped him. "Your Highness, all magic comes at a cost."
"Look at the Old Witch's miserable state."
"It really is not a good idea for you to learn magic. Besides, learning magic costs a great deal of money. When are you going to repay the money you owe me?"
The Old Witch wanted to refuse. "This..."
Yveta said righteously, "You said before that you would compensate me equally for stealing my Ox Cart."
"Now is the time to honor that promise!"
Only then did the Old Witch remember that she had made a binding oath.
What the hell does this Demon God want?
The Old Witch felt somewhat terrified. She always felt that teaching this Demon God would put her life in danger.
But forced by her earlier promise, she could only say, "Respected Your Grace, I agree to teach you magic. But you must remember that I am a subordinate of the Dark Queen. Do you understand?"
She meant to emphasize that she had someone above her.
Yveta looked at the Demon Hunter. What did she mean?
Demon Hunter Black Wolf shrugged, indicating that he did not know either.
