A letter requesting the appointment of a title had unexpectedly brought two replies from different sides. That was certainly strange.

Yveta had Griffin Knight open the two letters.

Griffin Knight began reading them aloud. "This letter is from the Ambrose City Council—"

"Esteemed new lord, Yveta: the ears of some Children of the Forest that you enclosed with your letter have been examined by our experts. They do indeed belong to ogres, centaurs, and Minotaurs."

"But this does not necessarily prove that the Children of the Forest are acting as an army. They may simply be a group of monsters wandering about."

"Centuries of experience have taught us that these monsters have no social structure, nor any of the qualities expected of intelligent beings. Intelligence is a gift from God reserved exclusively for humankind. Monsters without faith cannot possibly attain intelligence to rival that of humans."

"Therefore, you need not be especially concerned. The Ambrose City Council is, however, pleased that the western frontier is guarded by a powerful noble like yourself, who comes from a background as an explorer."

"We have verified your achievements and made preparations for your Investiture Ceremony."

"Please bring your attendants to Ambrose City. We will extend to a powerful noble such as yourself the honors you deserve."

"At this time of turmoil, it is an opportunity for powerful nobles of common birth like yourself to prove their worth. Please bring your army into Ambrose. This is a virtuous deed that God of All Things himself will bless."

Griffin Knight looked up at Yveta with an odd expression. "The people on the City Council seem to think you were born a commoner. Perhaps it's because you told them you used to be an explorer."

"The people on the City Council misunderstood what I meant."
