In the far east of the Primordial World, where the first light of dawn rose, lay a place called Tang Valley. There stood a colossal Fusang Tree, its entire body crimson as burning flames, radiating endless heat. It was the embodiment of the laws of fire between heaven and earth.
Perched on the Fusang Tree were ten golden figures, each like a sun. They were ten small Three-legged Golden Crows, born spirits of flame and the children of the Heavenly Emperor, Di Jun.
Di Jun and Taiyi had mysterious origins. Outsiders knew only that they had emerged from the Sun Star, that their true forms were Three-legged Golden Crows, and that they possessed immense power and had established the vast Heavenly Court. Beyond that, no one knew anything about them.
Di Jun had two wives, the two Moon Goddesses Xi He and Chang Xi of the Taiyin Star. Xi He had borne him ten sons, the ten princes of the Heavenly Court. Since they were born with extraordinary solar fire and ordinary places could not accommodate them, Di Jun had sent them to cultivate in seclusion beneath the Fusang Tree in Tang Valley. They were the Ten Golden Crows.
Because Di Jun had placed a restriction on the valley while he was in power, the Ten Golden Crows, though not the sort to patiently endure cultivation, had no choice but to keep themselves in check.
Then, one day, as one of the Golden Crows happened to gaze out at the colorful world beyond the edge of Tang Valley, he suddenly noticed that the restriction his father had placed there was gone.
He let out a cry and spread his wings, flying into the valley. "Big Brother, Second Brother, guess what I found! Father's restriction is gone!"
