Ch. 41Chapter Forty-One: Boarding Action

The Roger Pirates fought their way through the Golden Lion Pirates’ cannon barrage and began boarding the enemy fleet. As the battle intensified, Louis jumped into the fray while Golden Lion’s officers moved to engage Roger’s crew.

  • Roger and Golden Lion clashed above their fleets as Golden Lion’s officers descended to join the battle.
  • The Ol' Jackson rushed through the cannon fire, and Cat Viper and Inuarashi boarded an enemy ship and cut down its pirates.
  • Shanks and Buggy fought aboard another ship until Rayleigh rescued them from Colossus Soren and sent them away.
  • Rhode ordered Louis to leave their ship and fight as the fleet’s battle escalated.

Ch. 42Red Hair

Louis fought to survive the battle between the Golden Lion and Roger’s forces, then took command of a sound ship and tried to escape the bombardment. As the ship began to flee, Shanks confronted him for sending Buggy into the sea.

  • Louis landed on a pirate ship, saved Mario, and urged the crew to abandon their damaged vessel under the Golden Lion Grand Fleet’s bombardment.
  • Louis swam to another ship, dodged a cannonball, and witnessed Rayleigh cleave a nearby ship in two.
  • Louis encountered Buggy and knocked him into the sea with the flat of his sword.
  • Louis took over a sturdy ship and ordered its crew to steer away from the battle.
  • Shanks climbed onto the rail and challenged Louis for hurting Buggy.

Ch. 43Fierce Battle

Louis fought Shanks and Buggy after ordering his pirates to open fire, but the two boys turned the ship’s deck into a battlefield. Shanks evaded Louis’s attacks while Buggy drew Louis’s attention, leaving the fight unresolved.

  • Buggy argued with Shanks about relying on crewmates after Shanks helped save him from the sea.
  • Louis ordered his pirates to fire, but Shanks blocked the bullets with planks and he and Buggy disappeared into the hold.
  • Shanks and Buggy burst back onto the deck and struck down groups of pirates with Shanks’s sword and Buggy’s knives.
  • Louis attacked Shanks, overpowering him and sending him crashing into the mast, but Shanks escaped by flipping away and diving into the crowd.
  • Shanks blended into the pirates and dodged Louis’s pursuit, while Buggy threw knives at Louis and then recoiled when Louis turned toward him.

Ch. 44The Storm

Louis fought Shanks and Buggy, then escaped into the sea when Gaban arrived to rescue them. As the storm broke, Louis reached a wrecked ship and realized he was caught in the storm that would change the pirate world.

  • Louis crushed Buggy's hand and broke Shanks's shoulder and part of his ear when Shanks tried to stop him.
  • Louis ordered the pirates to fire, but Gaban arrived and deflected the bullets, then drove the pirates away.
  • Gaban told Shanks and Buggy to return to their ship because the Roger Pirates were ready to strike back.
  • Louis escaped underwater and boarded a badly damaged ship covered in dead pirates as the storm began.
  • Lightning struck a nearby ship, the storm battered Louis's ship, and a voice shouted that Golden Lion was finished.

Ch. 45Desperate Situation

Louis waited for the Marines to rescue him as the storm destroyed the Golden Lion Grand Fleet and Roger fought Shiki, but his call was cut off before he could give his location. The Marines prepared to intervene while Louis was swept off his ship and swallowed by a huge wave.

  • Louis watched the storm wreck ships at sea and in the sky, leaving the Golden Lion Grand Fleet in ruins.
  • Roger battled Shiki aboard the damaged flagship and declared that Shiki’s fleet and ambitions were finished.
  • Sengoku answered Louis’s coded call, learned he was a CP9 agent, and ordered the Marines to deploy.
  • A piercing noise cut off Louis before he could tell Sengoku where he was.
  • Louis was blown from the ship, surfaced briefly, and was swallowed by a huge wave.

Ch. 46Awakening

Louis survived the storm by taking control of a drifting ship and rescued Rhode, the Blood Hand Pirates’ captain. When Rhode ordered him to return to the battle, Louis refused and attacked him, determined to live rather than fight for Golden Lion’s ambition.

  • Louis rejected despair, used Geppo to reach a drifting ship, and steered it through a towering wave.
  • Louis spotted Rhode in the water, hauled him aboard, and learned that the injured captain had been thrown into the sea by the Roger Pirates.
  • Louis tried to sail away from the battle, but Rhode insisted they return and fight for Golden Lion.
  • Rhode ordered Louis to take him back, and Louis pretended to accept while asking Rhode to take the helm.
  • Louis used Lotus Finger Gun to attack Rhode, declaring that his own resolve could not be changed.

Ch. 47The Traitor and the Dreamer

Louis attacked Rhode aboard the storm-tossed boat and defeated him with the Six Powers and his hair-based abilities. He revealed that Baro had suspected him and left Rhode gravely wounded as he raised his sword to finish the job.

  • Louis revealed that he was a Devil Fruit user and used Soru to attack Rhode, who recognized his Six Powers techniques and called him a spy.
  • Rhode fought back with Armament Haki, but Louis dodged his attacks and struck his internal organs with Rokuogan.
  • Louis bound Rhode with his hair, landed another Rokuogan, and knocked him down when Rhode tried to rise.
  • Louis told Rhode that Baro had suspected him and criticized Rhode for forcing him to return and allowing Baro to investigate him.
  • Louis admitted he had wanted to lessen his guilt, laughed, and raised his sword beside the incapacitated Rhode.

Ch. 48The Navy Attacks

Louis rescued Shak and other Golden Lion Pirates from the storm, becoming the leader of a ship full of formidable survivors. As they fled, Kuzan froze the sea around them and a Marine warship pursued, before a shower of magma began falling toward their ship.

  • Louis threw Rhode's body into the sea, then rescued Shak and brought him aboard as a partner.
  • Louis and Shak rescued more survivors until nearly twenty pirates, including several high-bounty captains, had gathered aboard.
  • Kuzan froze the sea, and Louis ordered the pirates to change course and flee the Marines.
  • The pirates smashed the ice as it spread, but a Marine warship caught up with them.
  • Massive chunks of magma rained from the clouds, and Louis urged everyone to keep the ship from being destroyed.

Ch. 49The Fall

Louis led the pirates aboard his boat toward the waters where the Roger Pirates and Golden Lion Grand Fleet were fighting, despite Navy pursuit and a devastating magma bombardment. As they fought off Navy cannon fire, an island began falling from the sky.

  • Louis ordered the boat to charge through the magma-struck waters, and the rescued pirates agreed to follow his lead.
  • Louis told the crew to gather more fighters and sail at full speed while Navy warships pursued them.
  • The magma bombardment stopped, but Navy cannons struck beside the boat as it entered the battle zone.
  • Louis, Sword, and Snake cut apart incoming cannonballs to protect the ship.
  • Shak spotted an island falling from the sky, and Louis recognized the Golden Lion's power.

Ch. 50Breaking Free

After Golden Lion’s flagship crashed into the sea, Louis survived the resulting wave and built an ice vessel from Aokiji’s frozen wave. He gathered surviving pirates and passed the Roger Pirates safely, leaving the Aethelwold Sea Battle behind.

  • Golden Lion’s flagship fell into the sea, and the resulting wave smashed Louis’s boat and killed or scattered half the crew.
  • Louis, Shak, Snake, and Sword survived on Aokiji’s ice, then fashioned a crude Ice Ship and set out to find other survivors.
  • Louis rescued dozens of living pirates from the water and gathered supplies for their voyage.
  • The survivors encountered the Roger Pirates, but Roger ordered his crew to leave Louis’s group alone, and Shanks said he would challenge Louis fairly another time.
  • Louis’s Ice Ship passed the Roger Pirates and escaped the battlefield as the Navy pursued them.
