A small number of Imperial soldiers scattered and fled, while most were systematically driven toward Bersuvi Castle by the Drow Elves legion.
Wars were common in the Underworld, and Matron Cynthia was a seasoned commander.
Driving routed soldiers like this was a winning tactic that could snowball across the battlefield—despite the Imperial Army's superior numbers, their own fleeing troops would disrupt their formation instead.
Sometimes, the enemy's routed soldiers were more useful than one's own army.
First, fear was contagious. The flight of routed troops would greatly undermine the morale of enemy soldiers who had not yet fallen into disarray.
Second, if the enemy wished to maintain their formation, they had to ruthlessly kill their own allies. Yet commanders capable of making such a cruel decision were few and far between.
Just as Matron Cynthia had expected, Nicholas IV lacked such resolve. A large number of Drow Elves scimitar warriors led the charge, while spider priestesses drove spider elves, mud monsters, and other Underworld creatures into Bersuvi Castle.
"Kill them all! Kamila, bring me the heads of the Gorseflower Emperor and Duke Bersuvi!"
Matron Cynthia let out a piercing shriek. A layer of blood-red light enveloped every Drow Elf in the legion, greatly increasing their attack and movement speed.
Yet after Matron Cynthia's shriek, "Kamila" did not appear.
"Kamila! Where are you?" Matron Cynthia's psychic waves swept across the battlefield, but she could not find her.
Matron Cynthia instinctively sensed that something was wrong. Looking at the Gorseflower Empire's imperial banner so close at hand, she gritted her teeth and ordered, "April! Lead my elite guard in the attack and kill the Gorseflower Emperor!"
April was Matron Cynthia's male consort, as well as a warrior highly skilled in swordsmanship.
In Drow Elves society, males without great strength easily became sacrifices.
