More images appeared in the surrounding void. Closest to Bai Xiaowen was Old Zhong, followed by Sky Monkey and Queen Bee. Bai Xiaowen knew these images were merely wisps of the spectators' consciousness.
The spectators could speak to one another, but they could not interfere with the duelists or affect the fairness of the fight.

Queen Bee smiled. "That's right. On the Main Material Plane, lords can summon their territorial armies to fight. But doing so requires a Psionic Medium, or simply a 'medium.' Those hazy buildings you see, whether the Flame Pool or the martial hall, are buildings from their respective territories."
After a pause, Queen Bee continued, "The pillars of light the lords sent out create mediums on the Main Material Plane that connect to their territories. Once a medium takes shape, its lord can send troops through it."
