Bai Xiaowen looked toward the expert: Kelowen, the witch.
Kelowen took the tablet and frowned. "The contract's power doesn't come from the words. It comes from the tablet itself... There's something familiar about it, but I can't place it yet. Once I'm back at the Spirit Hut, I'll look through the records and notes my teacher left behind. There might be something in them."
"Sorry to trouble you," Bai Xiaowen said. "This tablet is important. It might be the key to defeating our enemy."
As he spoke, Bai Xiaowen held out his hand. He didn't want Kelowen to keep the tablet. He would feel better holding on to it himself.
Kelowen handed it straight back without hesitation.
