After the entrance ceremony, Tennoji Kaede didn't rush to the convenience store to look for potential plot points. Instead, he headed to the High School Club District.
He pushed open the door to the Sanda Club. The interior was quite spacious, with sandbags, barbells, and other training equipment scattered around.
Two robust, cheerful upperclassmen were chatting.
"Oh? Someone's here... You're a new first-year student, right? The club orientation meeting is tomorrow afternoon, after school officially starts. You're a bit early," the second-year Class B member with a buzz cut reminded him.
"Thank you for the reminder, upperclassman. I'm not here to join the club right now," Tennoji Kaede replied with a look of pure, naive foolishness.
The other, a calm third-year Class A student, frowned. "This underclassman seems to have come prepared. Please, speak your mind."
"Allow me to introduce myself. First-year Class C, Tennoji Kaede."
"I'd like to spar with you, upperclassmen. Of course, it won't be for free. I'll put up 90,000 points as stakes. Are the Sanda Club seniors willing to compete with me?" Tennoji Kaede loosened his collar after speaking.
The upperclassmen exchanged glances, their eyes deep. The second-year member spoke:
"You're quite confident, underclassman. You each received 100,000 points upon enrollment, correct? If you lose this, you'll only have 10,000 points left for the month. You'll have to tighten your belt for expenses going forward."
The upperclassman's tone was quite teasing, but this was exactly what Tennoji Kaede wanted to hear.
"10,000 points is enough to get by. It'll last until next month, upperclassman. Are you in or not?"
The second-year upperclassman finally broke into a smile. This kid was a real greenhorn, a leek just waiting to be harvested.
For one thing, in his eyes, this underclassman was a pure freshman. He had no idea about the hidden rules, and he was from Class C.
He was acting recklessly, thinking his points were abundant because he didn't know any better, and he'd get another 100,000 next month. The thought of it almost made him laugh.
Secondly, judging by the skin and muscles he could see, he didn't look like someone who had trained professionally.
Maybe he'd trained for a while at some no-name sanda club outside the school, but he couldn't possibly be a match for a veteran like himself, who had been training for two years. The physical training at this school was no joke.
And finally, as a second-year student, most of his points had been extorted by Nagumo from Class A. Even as a Class B student, he was broke!
He really needed to seize this opportunity to make some easy money.
The second-year Class B member's mind raced. He wouldn't do anything he wasn't sure of or that wouldn't yield a profit.
"Alright, no problem. Since you're so insistent, underclassman, I'll match your 90,000 points. Consider it your first lesson at this school."
The second-year upperclassman pretended to be magnanimous, as if the points were trivial and teaching the junior was more important.
Tennoji Kaede nodded sincerely, delighted.
The third-year Class A upperclassman, seeing this, said nothing. He turned and invited the club's faculty advisor to witness the event and sign the match contract.
"You're quite formal about this, upperclassman," Tennoji Kaede said casually, glancing at the contract.
This made the second-year upperclassman even happier. This underclassman had no sense of contract spirit at all. He really didn't understand the purpose of points!
At this school, points were meant for gambling!
He chuckled, "There are many people at this school who are as confident and clever as you, underclassman... Challenging others is common. Signing a contract like this will become commonplace for you later on."
Tennoji Kaede caught the jab in his words but maintained his act of being receptive. After all, this was his cute senpai; he couldn't afford to be disrespectful!
On the club's practice floor.
"This match will be a best-of-three-rounds system. Scoring areas are the torso and thighs. The first to score 3 points wins a round. Both parties, please prepare."
Tennoji Kaede put on blue boxing gloves and stood steadily.
"Let the match begin."
Tennoji Kaede casually adopted a guard stance. The second-year upperclassman quickly stepped forward and threw a straight punch!
This fighting style showed great confidence.
Tennoji Kaede slightly sidestepped to block. After two rounds of close-quarters combat, he was easily hit for three points on his torso, while he only managed to score one point on the upperclassman's thigh.
The first round went to the second-year upperclassman.
Tennoji Kaede feigned nervousness, stretching his joints. "You're quite skilled, upperclassman! Let's go again!"
The second-year Class B member felt victory was within his grasp and waved his hand to continue.
In the second round, it was Tennoji Kaede's turn to attack quickly. The second-year upperclassman, with a look of certainty, adopted a defensive stance.
This underclassman is clearly desperate. 90,000 points, mine!
Tennoji Kaede chuckled inwardly and suddenly increased his punch speed by three.
Torso, score!
The third-year Class A upperclassman watching widened his pupils, exclaiming inwardly, How fast that punch was!
On the stage, taking advantage of the opponent's shock, Tennoji Kaede scored, then retreated to defend with a punch. He then used incredibly agile footwork to close the distance and repeatedly struck the upperclassman's left ribs and left thigh.
The whistle blew. Tennoji Kaede won the second round.
"This underclassman... How could he hit so fast?"
The second-year upperclassman was still stunned, completely unable to believe that the same person had fought in both rounds!
Should I have added a drug test to the contract just now?
"I concede, upperclassman. Let's continue."
The club advisor, acting as the referee, could already see the difference and expressionlessly declared the start of the third round.
The whistle blew, and this time the senior quickly closed the distance again. He believed the junior was only good at offense, not defense!
If he attacked this time, he was sure to win!
Facing the attack, Tennoji Kaede displayed exceptional body control techniques. He dodged back to defend, then threw a hook, scoring with his torso again!
This time his punch was faster, sending the second-year senior numb all over, leaving him no room to counter.
Three points in a row!
"Whoosh~! The match is over, Tennoji Kaede wins!"
"Impossible... Junior, you were faking it!?"
No matter how much the second-year senior tried to convince himself, he couldn't escape the bloody reality. He had been utterly crushed.
The club advisor was already thinking about how to recruit him. This was a promising talent for boxing!
"You jest, Senpai. I was just lucky."
Tennoji Kaede grinned and stepped forward, collecting the 90,000 points wager according to their contract. His total points now reached 190,000.
"I admit defeat. Junior, your way of transferring points... you're so skilled, you don't seem like a freshman at all. It seems I've completely lost this time." The Class B senior left with a smile.
The advisor watched with amusement and said, "Vice President, what do you say? Want to come up and test this new student's skills?"
Outside the ring, a senior from Third Year Class A was already warming up.
"Of course. This junior is Tennoji, right? On the first day of school, you already know how to earn points with your skills. Your thinking is quite sharp."
"...How about this? I'll bet 210,000 points, making it a round 400,000 total. You won't have to put anything up, junior."
"If I win, you'll report directly here for tomorrow's club orientation. I promise to give you 100,000 on the spot. How does that sound?"
What a Senpai!
Tennoji Kaede naturally agreed. Moreover, this senior from Third Year Class A was quite tactful.
If he won, he'd gain a strong club member. If he lost, it would just be like giving points to a junior, helping him round up his total, and he wouldn't lose face by losing to a junior.
"Let the match begin!"
