Background / History

The Ancient Clan descends from Gu Di and possesses a Dou Di bloodline, which grants its members exceptional cultivation potential. It was one of the original Eight Ancient Clans alongside the Soul, Yan, Lei, Yao, Stone, Spirit, and Xiao Clans. After the Xiao Clan’s fall, it became one of the seven surviving Dou God Clans 648.

A thousand years before the main events, the Ancient Clan exploited the aftermath of the war between the Xiao Clan and Soul Clan. Its forces killed the remaining Xiao Clan experts and descendants, seized nearly all of the Xiao Clan’s property, and moved the Xiao Realm into the Ancient Realm. The merged territory became the New Ancient Realm 648.

The clan is regarded as the public ruler of the Eastern Region of Central Province. Major forces seeking to establish themselves there must submit to one of its subordinate forces or risk their leadership disappearing. Its authority is administered through peripheral members rather than direct control of every subordinate organization 1019.

Territory and Governance

• Ancient Realm — The clan’s self-contained realm and principal territory. It incorporates the former Xiao Realm and is described as exceptionally vast and rich in natural energy 648 1034.
• Ancient Saint City — The entrance to the Ancient Realm. Entry requires an Ancient Clan invitation, and the city is guarded by numerous black-armored troops and powerful experts 1020.
• Ancient Saint Mountain Range — The central mountain range of the Ancient Realm; site of the clan’s assembly hall and the Heaven-Shaking Bell 1344.
• Eastern Region of Central Province — A region effectively controlled by the Ancient Clan through its network of subordinate forces 1019.

Bloodline and Internal Hierarchy

The Ancient Clan’s Dou Di bloodline is the basis of its political authority and cultivation advantage. The clan strictly protects bloodline purity, believing that marriage with non-bloodline individuals weakens and contaminates descendants’ bloodlines 903.

Clan marks can be activated in critical situations to temporarily increase their bearer’s strength. Among Dou Shengs, this use is generally limited to members with at least an eighth-grade bloodline; above Five-star Dou Sheng, meaningful use requires a Divine-grade bloodline 1035 1174.

Descendants

The Ancient Realm contains a vast lower stratum of “descendants”: people whose connection to Gu Di is extremely distant, as well as lines descended from members who violated clan bloodline rules. Their bloodlines are generally faint, but a rare mutation can elevate one into a true clan genius and secure formal recognition and resources from the clan 1031.

• Great Annihilation Technique — A closely guarded, high-level Dou Skill. Only supreme geniuses who reach Transformed Dou Zun before age thirty or elders above Four-star Dou Sheng may cultivate it. An Early Five-star Dou Sheng elder once used it to kill a Mid Five-star non-bloodline Dou Sheng 1028.

• Soul Clan — Long-standing rival and primary strategic threat. Both clans were suspected after the Spirit Clan disappeared, and their conflict later escalated into open war 1106 1292.
• Yan Clan — Marriage ally. Gu Qingyang was arranged to marry into the Yan Clan, and the two clans linked their small worlds through guarded passageways 1133.
• Yao Clan — Marriage ally alongside the Yan Clan; the three clans formed a bloc opposed to the Soul, Lei, and Stone Clans 1132.
• Lei Clan and Stone Clan — Political rivals after both allied with the Soul Clan in response to the Ancient Clan’s growing influence 1131 1132.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Coming-of-Age Ceremony

The Ancient Clan invites Lin Feng to its once-every-twenty-years coming-of-age ceremony, presenting the event as an opportunity for its younger generation to interact with Central Continent geniuses 958. The ceremony publicly measures eligible youths’ bloodline grades, strength, and clan-mark qualifications 1035.

The clan’s intended display of supremacy backfires when Lin Feng defeats Gu Qingyang, then defeats Gu Xun'er despite her Divine-grade bloodline. These defeats undermine the Ancient Clan’s belief in the inherent superiority of bloodline cultivators over outsiders 1031 1044.

Gu Zhen subsequently attempts to recruit Lin Feng with promises of resources, protection, status, and marriage to a low-bloodline Ancient Clan woman. Lin Feng rejects the offer, viewing it as an attempt to control him 1034.

Three-Clan Alliance and East Dragon Island Campaign

The Ancient Clan forms marriage alliances with the Yan and Yao Clans, creating a major political bloc against the Soul Clan’s allies 1132. The three clans then dispatch a Dou Sheng-led allied army to support the Three Great Dragon Islands against East Dragon Island 1134 1140.

The campaign ends disastrously when Lin Feng and East Dragon Island kill Gu Qiu Yuan and another Ancient Clan elder. The clan considers retaliation but is restrained by Lin Feng’s threat to bring the Ancient Void Dragon Clan and Nine Netherworld Underworld Python Clan into the Soul Clan’s camp 1152.

War with the Soul Clan

As the Soul Clan’s threat becomes undeniable, Gu Yuan mobilizes the Ancient Clan through the Heaven-Shaking Bell and coordinates with the Yan Clan to prevent Hun Tiandi from acquiring the Emperor Grade Nascent Pill 1344.

The Ancient Clan, Yan Clan, and Heavenly Mansion Alliance later launch a direct campaign against the Soul Clan. Gu Yuan leads the Ancient Clan’s forces alongside Yan Jin, while Gu Xun'er agrees to trade the final Tou She Ancient God Jade piece to save the Xiao Family 1291 1292.

Fall

During Hun Tiandi’s refinement of the Emperor Grade Nascent Pill, the Ancient Clan’s members are used as part of the refinement process, while Lin Feng also absorbs their Dou Di bloodline with his Golden Emperor Burning Heaven Flame 1370. By the era of Dust Emperor Lin Feng, the once-renowned Seven Ancient Clans have vanished, leaving the Ancient Clan extinct as a major power 1404.
