"What is it?" Song Qingshu picked up the silk in confusion. It was covered in tiny writing, the first line reading "North Darkness Divine Skill." The elegant yet forceful handwriting matched that on the outside of the silk bundle. It went on to say:
"Zhuangzi's 'Carefree Wanderer' says: 'To the north of the uttermost north lies a dark sea, the Heavenly Pool. There is a fish there, thousands of li wide, and none know how long it is.' It also says: 'If water is not deep enough, it lacks the strength to carry a great boat. Pour a cup of water into a hollow in the courtyard, and a blade of grass may serve as a boat; set a cup there, and it will stick fast, for the water is shallow and the boat too large.' Thus, the foremost principle of our school's martial arts is the accumulation of inner strength. Once one's inner strength is profound, all martial arts beneath heaven may be used at one's command. Just like the Northern Darkness, it can bear both great vessels and small boats, contain both great fish and small fish. "North Darkness Divine Skill!" Song Qingshu was somewhat surprised. He had not expected Wuyazi to give away even his most treasured skill. Clearly, he did not wish to be outdone by his two fellow disciples.
"This is a good thing." Song Qingshu smiled wryly. He had previously learned some Xiaoyao School martial arts from Tang Saier and the others, but Tang Saier knew only so much. This huge roll of silk appeared to be like the scroll Duan Yu had obtained in the original story, recording the essential teachings of Xiaoyao School
