The curse backlash had only been Jiu Ming's speculation. The next day, Chachamaru told Jiu Ming that she was sick...
Upon hearing the news, Jiu Ming blinked in confusion. What the hell? Sick!? Damn, vampires could get sick too?
Without another word, Jiu Ming rushed into the room. Though the sun was already high in the sky and its rays streamed through the room, she merely curled up beneath the covers, avoiding the sunlight pouring in through the window as best she could. "So hot... What did you come in for?"
An unhealthy flush stained her cheeks. Curled up in the blankets, Evangeline looked like a kitten that had just woken up.
"Visiting the sick." Jiu Ming reached out to feel her forehead, but she shot him a wary glance and shrank back, her face full of vigilance. He awkwardly withdrew his hand, and a cluster of blazing white lightning lit up at his fingertips. "How about I treat you?"
"No..." With half her face buried beneath the sheets, Evangeline spoke softly. "Move your hand away."
"Fine, no treatment, then. But are you really okay just suffering like this?"
"...None of your concern. I'm perfectly fine like this." Wrinkling her little nose, she replied listlessly. The sunlight made her squint.
Jiu Ming silently watched her for a while, then snapped his fingers. A chair appeared beside him. After sitting down, he said, "What? Feeling nostalgic for the long-lost sensation of being sick?"
Evangeline cast Jiu Ming a sidelong glance, then continued staring blankly at the ceiling through narrowed eyes. Curling his lips, Jiu Ming stood and walked to the window. He took out the Card Collection Book, flipped through it for a moment, then crushed something from it. The bright sunlight outside immediately dimmed, as though something had covered it.
