"What do you think life is?"
In the darkness, Red Queen suddenly projected a phantom image of herself and asked Lin An in a cold, childish voice.
"Life?"
Lin An raised an eyebrow, suddenly somewhat surprised.
He had not expected Red Queen not only to fail to answer his question, but to ask him something like this instead.
An Artificial Intelligence was asking him what life was?
Finding it somewhat bizarre, Lin An frowned and replied:
"Life is an organism capable of reproduction and division, capable of adapting to changes in its environment, and capable of passing on genetic information."
"What, are you trying to convince me that I'm a dead man?"
After his brief answer, Lin An let out a soft laugh, simply intending to see what kind of trick Red Queen was planning.
A program discussing what life was with him? That was truly interesting...
"Yes."
Once again, Red Queen exceeded Lin An's expectations. The little girl she had taken the form of nodded seriously and spoke coldly:
"If you believe that you are different from a stone—that you are alive while the stone is dead—then you are indeed a dead man."
"You humans, including all life, are fundamentally composed of matter. Therefore, you must all be the same kind of thing. Either everything is dead, or everything is alive."
"No. A stone can't speak, and it can't give birth to little stones."
Listening to Red Queen's logic, Lin An smiled and asked calmly:
"I'm curious. Is there something wrong with your database?"
Lin An scrutinized the phantom projected by Red Queen. He did not care what earth-shattering nonsense she could come up with. The last person who had tried to distort his understanding had already died without leaving even a scrap behind.
"Don't interrupt me, dead human."
