Ever since joining the German National Research Institute, Abraham Erskine had rarely seen his former classmate and research partner, Johann Schmidt.
Schmidt had soon transferred to the National Weapons Research Department, where most of the scientists were physicists focused on military equipment.
He had never cared much about what field he specialized in. Johann Schmidt was a quick learner, but he studied to secure better conditions and climb higher. He was more interested in political maneuvering and power.
Erskine's research at the University of Munich continued, and he had made considerable breakthroughs in the limits of the human body and the possibilities of evolution.
He had found a clear direction for his research into strengthening the human body and unlocking its potential, and had also made some discoveries about mutations in human genes.
"Abraham Erskine, it's been a while."
At the entrance to the institute, Erskine was about to head home when he ran into Schmidt, whom he hadn't seen in ages.
"It has. Where are you off to, Johann? That's a fine suit. It goes well with your leather coat."
Schmidt looked as though he was on his way to some sort of event. He wore tall, polished leather boots and a black leather trench coat, giving him the appearance of an officer.
"I'm going to a Workers' Party rally. Adolf Hitler is an extraordinarily charismatic and talented man! Come with me, Erskine. I'll introduce you to some of the party's key members."
Schmidt became visibly excited when he mentioned Adolf Hitler.
Abraham shook his head and politely declined. He had heard of Hitler. The man was an extreme nationalist who had repeatedly shown his hostility toward Jews, both openly and covertly. Besides, Abraham had no interest whatsoever in social or political gatherings.
