As a complete newcomer to writing, when it came to putting my book behind a paywall, I'd only looked at how many chapters and how many words other authors had written before doing so.
So I figured I'd write for another couple of weeks or so, and then I should be ready. These past few days, I'd started writing a little extra each day and building up a reserve, so I could give everyone several days of updates all at once when the book went premium.
But just over an hour ago, I got a message from my editor and a notification from Qidian: the book would go premium tomorrow, on the first. Waaaaah! It was so sudden!
Just imagine Hei Pan, a hulking, bald, six-foot-one tough guy, bawling his eyes out.
But that's how things turned out, so I had no choice but to hurriedly write this announcement, update you all on the situation, say a few heartfelt words, and get right back to writing.
Everyone still reading this book has probably formed some idea of where it's going. Early on, there was a controversial plot point that sent me scouring the comment sections of other new authors' works. I couldn't find anyone else who was so highly regarded by readers—and so passionately cursed out—as Hei Pan.
First, I want to apologize for this: whatever my original intentions for the plot, I didn't write that part well in the end. I was constantly being influenced by the criticism at the time, and was eager to hurry past it.
After all, the first volume is only about a hundred thousand words, and there's still quite a way to go before the story properly reaches the world and plot everyone knows.
The recent chapters have all been setup, without
