Hearing the footsteps, Sasuke immediately wanted to run away, but for some reason, his body would not obey him. Fine beads of sweat appeared on his forehead, and he was so nervous he did not know where to put his hands.
"Sasuke?"
That delighted call, that familiar voice, instantly steadied Sasuke's emotions.
He slowly turned his head. The familiar figure, the familiar face, the familiar gentle gaze.
After all these years, she had not changed at all. She was exactly the same as the person in his memories.
"Mother..."
"It really is Sasuke!"
Uchiha Mikoto's tears instantly welled up. She stepped forward and tightly embraced Sasuke.
At that moment, Sasuke suddenly felt that nothing else mattered. His tears spilled out as well.
"Mother..."
Mother and son clung to each other and wept bitterly.
Itachi did not go out. He merely stood there quietly, listening to the crying at the door.
A faintly mocking smile appeared on Shiraishi Yoshijo's lips. "What? Don't know how to face the little brother you cherished most?"
Itachi glanced at him and said flatly, "This has nothing to do with you. Why did you bring Sasuke here at a time like this? Do you want to use him?"
"That's a rather harsh way to put it. There are no free lunches, and I'm no good person. I've never helped anyone without value. Maybe you should be glad Sasuke has some use. Otherwise, I'd have no interest in sheltering an internationally wanted criminal."
Although Uchiha Mikoto tried to mediate between them, the relationship between Shiraishi Yoshijo and Uchiha Itachi had never been good.
As far as Shiraishi Yoshijo was concerned, he had only saved Itachi out of consideration for Uchiha Mikoto. Yet not only had Itachi never shown him any gratitude, he had always treated him coldly.
