Background / History
Wu Zhiai was not the biological daughter of the Wu Family's old master. Despite this, she developed and expanded the family's caravan business and much of its wealth. Before his death, the old master publicly promised her half of the family assets, but her eldest and second brothers reneged after his passing, leaving her politically isolated alongside Master Wu. 11
Determined to control her own fate, Wu Zhiai sought capable allies rather than accepting her diminished standing. Master Wu recommended Chen Mo to her, and she recruited him as a caravan guard after he defeated Luo Heng. She made clear that she wanted Chen Mo's support in eventually taking control of the Wu Family. 11
Appearance
Wu Zhiai is frequently depicted in elegant dresses, most notably a cyan silk dress. During her flight from Black River Town, she trades this attire for a practical black round-collared robe; her long hair falls over her shoulders, and she is described as having an exceptionally beautiful face. 23 56
- Usually wears cyan or other refined dresses while acting as the Wu Family's third young lady. 23 49
- Adopted dark, mobile clothing while hiding at the wild temple. 56
- Her composed manner and graceful bearing are notable even in tense political settings. 23
Personality
Wu Zhiai is ambitious, pragmatic, and fiercely independent. She believes that survival in troubled times requires holding one's own power, and she openly seeks to overturn the balance within the Wu Family rather than accept her brothers' control. 11
She is willing to make costly political sacrifices for people she considers valuable. To secure Chen Mo access to the Wu Family Book Pavilion, she traded away ten percent of her control over the caravan—a concession that immediately tempted Wu Duan. 24
Though politically calculating, Wu Zhiai is deeply loyal to Chen Mo. She continues supporting him despite the danger posed by the Zhao Family, Black Tiger Hall, and Hansha Gang, and she prioritizes his safety even while fleeing for her own life. 46 55 56
