The train pulled away.
Since there were other people in the compartment, Harley stopped fooling around with Hermione.
Besides, Hermione was no longer in the mood to play around with Harley. Her attention was fixed on the copy of The Quibbler in Luna's hands and the so-called Crumple-Horned Snorkack.
"I've memorized the entire book Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and it doesn't mention the Crumple-Horned Snorkack at all!" Hermione started arguing with Luna.
To make her argument more convincing, she even pulled her textbook out of her bag.
"No, the Crumple-Horned Snorkack exists," Luna said solemnly. "It just hasn't been discovered yet.
"That's because the Crumple-Horned Snorkack is a shy creature, so nobody has managed to find it."
"If this so-called Crumple-Horned Snorkack hasn't been discovered, what makes you say it exists?" Hermione began laying out the facts and reasoning things through.
"Because it exists! You can't say it doesn't exist just because nobody has discovered it."
Luna was arguing with Hermione in a perfectly serious tone, but the things she said, combined with her expression, made her seem as if she were patiently indulging a fool.
"Then you could just as easily put it the other way around! Nobody can find the Crumple-Horned Snorkack because it doesn't exist..."
Hermione was still trying to convince Luna with logic, but Luna wasn't buying it.
"That's just prejudice. The Crumple-Horned Snorkack really does exist..."
Harley didn't join in the argument. She simply reclined in her seat, smiling as she watched them.
They only stopped debating when the middle-aged witch selling snacks knocked on the compartment door.
Of course, neither of them managed to convince the other.
And judging by Harley's extensive life experience, they probably never would.
The train kept moving, and the compartment fell quiet.
