"Immortal?"
WarGreymon's dragon eyes locked onto the black figure regenerating before him. His voice rumbled like magma beneath the earth.
"Then I'll burn you to ash!"
He flung his arms wide. Golden dragon wings spread behind him with a roar, their three-hundred-meter span blotting out what remained of the moonlight.
The atmosphere began to tremble. Across dozens of miles, every trace of power was drawn together and compressed by an unseen will.
Golden light gathered between his raised claws.
At first it was no bigger than a fist. Then it swelled in an instant—fifty meters, a hundred, two hundred—
An energy sphere more than four hundred meters across hung in the sky. From the ground, it looked like a sun fallen to earth.

WarGreymon thrust both arms forward.
The golden sun descended, leaving destruction in its wake as it plunged straight toward the regenerating Alexis.
Endless light swallowed Alexis's body, the black mist around him, and everything else in that part of the sky.
His black body vaporized in the light. The red markings on him evaporated.
Even his face, helpless and bitter after the beating, dissolved away.
When the light faded, nothing remained where he had been.
Not even ash.
But WarGreymon did not relax.
His gaze stayed fixed on the depths of the void.
There, almost too small for the naked eye to catch, countless particles finer than dust trembled faintly.
Then they began to grow.
Like a seed buried in soil, they drew nourishment from the void and slowly, inexorably—regenerated.
This time, it was much slower.
"What the hell is this thing? He's weak as anything, so why is he so hard to kill?!"
