Background

Before arriving in the Douluo Continent, Tang San remembers being an orphaned outer disciple of the Bashu Tang Sect. He secretly learned the inner sect's Mysterious Heaven Treasure Record, forged the Buddha Fury Tang Lotus, and was driven to leap from Ghost Sorrow Cliff after his theft was exposed. 114

In Holy Soul Village, he grew up as Tang Hao's son. At six, he cultivated Purple Demon Eye at dawn, used Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track to return from the mountain, and regularly prepared food for his father's smithy. 21 His martial soul awakening revealed Blue Silver Grass and Innate Full Soul Power; he kept his second martial soul hidden immediately afterward. 3

While departing for Notting Academy, Tang San was nearly abducted by Ghost Leopard Douluo before Tang Hao's intervention. Tang Hao later placed him under Yu Xiaogang's guidance, believing the latter might uncover Bibi Dong's solution to the backlash associated with Twin Martial Souls. 21 26

Tang San is exceptionally disciplined. He rises before dawn to cultivate, endures Shrek Academy's punishing physical training, and continues practicing despite inadequate food and harsh living conditions. 21 99 106 He is also notably dutiful: he cared for Tang Hao before leaving home and later took responsibility for Yu Xiaogang's care despite his own injuries. 21 118

He is cautious and analytical when investigating threats, waiting for an opening before infiltrating Li Feiyu's home and checking a recovered box for traps before opening it. 112 However, he is deeply possessive of Tang Sect techniques and reacts strongly to their apparent use by others.
