First of all, thanks to everyone who's stuck with this book up to this point. Even though it has plenty of flaws and problems, you've patiently supported the author all this time!!! (ˊωˋ*)
Volume One has come to an end. This volume was just a beginning, laying the groundwork. Nothing too dramatic happened. The next volume will establish the protagonist's role and set the tone for the whole book. I hope I won't disappoint you! ╰(*︶`*)╯
As for Volume One, many readers felt the biggest problem was how Naruto was placed. Quite a few may have stopped reading at that chapter, but the author chose not to revise it.
In fact, where Naruto was placed had no impact whatsoever on the plot of this book. I hadn't originally planned to explain it in detail, but since some readers may disagree with how I handled it and still kept reading this far, I thought I should explain why I made that choice.
When I wrote the part about where Naruto would live, I considered having the Third Hokage or someone else temporarily take him in. But I decided against it for the following two reasons and instead followed the original story:
The first reason was whether the Third Hokage would choose to take Naruto in. This had nothing to do with whether the Fourth Hokage was unconscious or dead. If the Third Hokage agreed, he could take Naruto in himself, or have Kakashi or someone else do so. But the Third Hokage didn't choose to do that;
The second reason was whether, in practical terms, the Third Hokage needed to worry about the Fourth Hokage still being alive. The original story shows that the Third Hokage didn't have that many qualms. Everyone in Konoha with any standing knew that Naruto was the orphan of the heroic Fourth Hokage. What's more, Kakashi and Jiraiya, the Fourth Hokage's student and teacher, were both still around. Yet the Third Hokage didn't seem concerned about Jiraiya, Kakashi, or the others who knew the truth. Naruto still wasn't taken in and was subjected to all kinds of discrimination.
So, taking both the subjective and objective factors into account, I chose to have the Third Hokage send Naruto to the orphanage anyway.
Of course, this part of the story was inherently ambiguous. It would also have been reasonable for the Third Hokage to take Naruto in out of concern for the Fourth Hokage. I simply inferred how the Third Hokage would handle things based on the logic of the original story.
I also considered changing how Naruto was treated because the Third Hokage knew the Fourth Hokage was still alive. In this book, Naruto will be looked after and won't face various forms of discrimination. But Naruto is still a baby in Volume One, so there wasn't a way for me to show that yet.
That's just my personal analysis. It's perfectly normal if readers disagree. After all, at the end of the day, it's just a manga, and Kishimoto didn't think that much about it either.
