This Night, I Couldn't Sleep

Yan Bingxue slowly walked over, circled to the other side of the bed, and lay down.

"I'm turning off the lights!"

Su Chen turned off the lights, and the room instantly plunged into darkness.

Su Chen touched his stomach and said, "You mentioning it made me hungry too. Let's go downstairs and grab some late-night food."

They put on their clothes and got up. Before heading out, Su Chen mentioned wanting to check on the two little ones next door.

Under the warm wall lights, the two children were sleeping soundly.

Tuantuan hugged her pink bunny, her little feet restlessly kicking off her blanket.

Lele, sleeping on the top bunk, was neat and tidy, lying flat with his blanket pulled up perfectly, not a single wrinkle visible. His hands rested outside the blanket.

Su Chen suspected that this child probably didn't even need to fold his blanket when he woke up!

Yan Bingxue pulled the blanket up for her daughter. The two then quietly retreated.

Midnight was prime time for street food stalls.

Outside the residential complex, a long street was lined with various food stalls. Most of the late-night offerings were barbecue, fried rice, as well as noodles, dumplings, and oden.

Stall after stall, the woks sizzled with activity on one side, while on the other, large bones simmered in a rich broth, bubbling and releasing a strong, savory aroma.

Customers, in small groups, were enjoying late-night meals at the stalls. Some ate barbecue with beer, while others brought their children to enjoy a bowl of fragrant chicken soup noodles, warming both heart and stomach.

Seeing this scene, Yan Bingxue's delicate eyebrows rose almost imperceptibly.

Who would have thought that she would eat at a roadside stall twice in one day?

If anyone she knew saw her, their jaws would probably drop in shock.

"What do you want to eat? We have barbecue, fried rice, stir-fried noodles, various soups, dumplings, and oden. Over there, they also have grilled pancakes and cold noodles!" Su Chen was clearly familiar with the area, rattling off the food options with ease.

"I'm fine with anything. What do you want to eat?" Yan Bingxue asked him.

"Okay!" Yan Bingxue nodded and followed him to a noodle stall.

The proprietress, standing by a large pot, smiled as she saw Su Chen. "Oh, young man, changing from barbecue to noodles today, huh? What kind of noodles do you want?"

"Two bowls of chicken soup noodles!"

After finishing, he turned to Yan Bingxue and asked, "Scallions and cilantro, do you have any dietary restrictions?"

Yan Bingxue shook her head, "I don't eat either."

"Boss, one bowl with no scallions or cilantro, please!"

The proprietress said cheerfully, "Got it, young man. It's different when you bring your girlfriend out for a late-night snack!"

"It's late at night, chicken soup noodles are good for you, they nourish the body!"

"With such a beautiful girlfriend, you have to cherish her!"

Su Chen chuckled, "Of course, I have to cherish my own wife!"

The two packed the noodles and returned home, sitting at the coffee table to eat.

He thought for a moment, then got up and fetched a large plastic clip from the shelf, the kind usually used for clipping laundry to dry.

Su Chen scratched his head and said, "This is all we have at home. Otherwise, will you make do with it?"

Yan Bingxue hadn't yet realized what he was doing when Su Chen suddenly walked behind her, helped her tie all her thick, wavy hair back, and then secured it with the large clip. Her long hair was now neatly out of the way.

"It works quite well!" Su Chen said, clapping his hands with satisfaction.

Yan Bingxue reached up and touched her hair. A novel and wonderful feeling surged through her. The corners of her mouth curved up slightly, "Thank you~"

After finishing a bowl of hot chicken soup noodles, both of them were slightly sweaty, but their stomachs were completely full.

Just then, the door to the guest room suddenly opened. Little Tuantuan, barefoot, rubbed her sleepy eyes and walked out, sniffling.

The little one ran over and propped herself on the edge of the coffee table, looking at the two bowls of noodle soup. Her little mouth pouted, and she started crying.

"Wuwuwu~ Daddy and Mommy are bad, secretly eating without saving any for Tuantuan!"

"Wuwuwu~ Tuantuan wants to eat too!"

Su Chen, having never seen such a scene, immediately picked up his daughter in a fluster. Holding her cold little feet in one hand, he comforted her, "Tuantuan, be good, don't cry~"

"Tomorrow morning, Daddy will buy Tuantuan some delicious food, okay?"
