Ch. 41Echo
Plot points and events
- Hidden in a cavern, Jingtian sustains the badly wounded Mo Yuan while Mo Yuan spends six days using the Demon Whale Clan’s secret Deep Sea Echo technique to contact survivors.
- Mo Yuan receives reports of three groups of Demon Whales under attack by human Soul Masters and Demon Soul Great White Sharks. All are close to death:
- A mother and calf, surrounded in the southwest.
- A fiercely resisting male whale, trapped in the west.
- A pair of companions in the northwest’s Hydrothermal Vent Forest, one gravely wounded and the other refusing to leave.
- Jingtian chooses the third group. It is nearest, faces the smallest enemy force, and the forest’s turbulent conditions could disrupt the hunters and favor his Dan-Devour attack.
- He orders Mo Yuan to tell the surviving whale to endure, lure the attackers toward the volcanic crater’s most active core, and hold out until help arrives.
- Jingtian then races toward the forest at full speed, abandoning stealth and pushing his depleted power to reach them within an hour.
Character developments
- Jingtian remains calculating and ruthless, but commits himself to rescuing the whales—combining practical judgment with a fierce urgency. He accepts the cost to his own strength and sees the mission as both a rescue and a chance to defeat the hunters.
- Mo Yuan shows loyalty and resolve, risking his remaining vitality to contact his clan. Though concerned for Jingtian, he obeys his orders.
- The surviving whale in the third report is characterized by devotion and self-sacrifice, refusing to abandon its dying companion.
Significant themes
- Loyalty and sacrifice: Mo Yuan risks himself for his people, while one whale refuses to leave its mate.
- Life under a deadline: Each report presents a desperate race against death.
- Cold strategy versus compassion: Jingtian’s rescue choice is driven by tactical advantages, yet it still offers a chance of survival.
- The environment as both threat and weapon: The vent forest endangers everyone but may give Jingtian an opening.
Character interactions
- Mo Yuan reports the survivors’ distress to Jingtian and voices concern about the dangerous terrain.
- Jingtian decisively selects the target, instructs Mo Yuan to relay orders, and leaves him to recover.
- Through the message, Jingtian’s plan gives the surviving whale a reason—and a command—to keep resisting until reinforcements arrive.
