The young man lowered the dagger in his hand and hurried over to support the bearded man. Out of the corner of his eye, he also signaled to the woman, who quickly stepped in front of Wang Feng, watching him warily. A spray of blood burst out. The bearded man, Lao Hei, looked at Wang Feng with surprise in his eyes. "Impressive, kid! In just that short time, my Soul Power has completely recovered! You're a Level 15 healing Spirit Master? This is the first time I've seen anyone restore Soul Power so effectively!"
In the blink of an eye, the three of them had dealt with the five-hundred-year-old Chrysanthemum Flame Hedgehog.
Just then, a black shadow suddenly dropped from the tree above and landed on the Chrysanthemum Flame Hedgehog's belly.
"Lao Hei, what's going on?"
"Be careful. Chrysanthemum Flame Hedgehogs are extremely aggressive. But judging by its size, it seems to be only a little over five hundred years old..." Si Rong said coolly.
The distant Chrysanthemum Flame Hedgehog shot out several flame-like spines, all of which Lao Hei blocked with his body. Si Rou suddenly shouted. Two Yellow Soul Rings lit up around her, and she slammed her Iron Tooth Grass Martial Spirit into the ground.
The information in the library was mostly recorded very crudely.
"Oh, sorry, I forgot to introduce myself..." Wang Feng said with a faint smile. "My name is Thanos."
That strike seemed to have taken a lot out of him. He had probably used a Soul Skill.
The young man and woman had just watched the bearded man convulse all over, and had assumed the kid was playing a prank. It hadn't looked like he was restoring Soul Power to his companion, Lao Hei.
When the spines proved ineffective, the Chrysanthemum Flame Hedgehog charged at the three of them, pounding the ground with its feet.
Lao Hei chuckled. "And getting my Soul Power back feels great, too. It's like you're giving me a massage... Really packs a punch."
Hearing this, the young man and woman both relaxed. They looked at Wang Feng, their eyes full of surprise.
But when the spines struck him, they rang against his body with a metallic clatter.
The Black Rock Bear was a particularly tough and durable beast-type Martial Spirit. After Martial Soul Possession, its speed became very slow, but its body was covered in a layer of rock, making it exceptionally resilient. It also had great stamina.
Listening to Si Rong's explanation, Wang Feng looked toward the Chrysanthemum Flame Hedgehog in the distance.
"Ling Ren!"
Lao Hei's expression darkened. Two Yellow Soul Rings lit up around him, and his body began to swell. Dense grains of rock covered his skin, making him look even more rugged.
Lao Hei spoke as he looked toward the woman.
"Chrysanthemum Flame Hedgehogs are a terrible match for plant-type Spirit Masters like me. If I try to control one, the flames on its body will catch fire, making it very difficult to restrain. So, Ling Ren, make sure you wait for the right moment and strike to kill! Now, go into hiding!"
"In no time, you restored one-fifth of the Soul Power of my Level 29 Battle Soul Master! That's pretty good!"
"Lao Hei, what's going on?"
Wang Feng's slightly hoarse voice startled the young man and woman.
These Spirit Masters had been through battles, so they were very alert.
Walking along the quiet path, Wang Feng heard strange cries from time to time. It made him feel as if he'd returned to the primeval forest.
The black shadow sprang nimbly from the hedgehog's belly, avoiding the spray of blood. But with its front legs caught, the Chrysanthemum Flame Hedgehog was like a speeding car that had rear-ended something. It flipped over headfirst and landed on its back, exposing its pale belly.
"Right, it's a codename. A lot of people call me Thanos," Wang Feng said. "I've heard it so often, I'm almost forgetting my real name."
Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh!
"No problem. Go ahead and fight to your hearts' content! I'll make sure you never run out of Soul Power!" Wang Feng said with a smile.
In an instant, several iron threads shot out of the ground and wrapped around the Chrysanthemum Flame Hedgehog's front legs.
"Don't worry, his Soul Power is recovering." Wang Feng knew the two had probably gotten worried because the bearded man didn't look quite right.
Lao Hei said seriously.
The three of them stared at him, speechless.
"Then I guess I've met your requirements, right?"
Before long, the three of them came across a five-hundred-year-old Chrysanthemum Flame Hedgehog.
"Lao Hei, protect us. Be careful—it might shoot the fiery needles on its body," Si Rong continued.
The young man hurriedly asked, curious. "How much of your Soul Power has recovered?"
He had only used a little Soul Power when activating the Golden Lotus.
He knew it was because the Golden Lotus had absorbed the Golden Light Thunder Leopard's Spirit Ring, giving it some of this effect. If he used Divinization, he could even make a Spirit Master's body crackle with lightning that could paralyze their opponent.
"Xiao Mie, you're a healing Spirit Master, so you're more vulnerable. After the battle, don't go wandering off! Stay by Si Rong and me! I'll protect you!"
He'd just used the Golden Lotus to restore the bearded man's Soul Power, so he'd only spent a little of his own.
The three introduced their Martial Spirits, then headed for the Soul Hunting Forest.
The iron threads formed from Iron Tooth Grass were far tougher than Blue Silver Grass—roughly the difference between a wooden stick and a strand of cooked noodles. They were extremely sturdy, making Iron Tooth Grass a good choice for a control-type Spirit Master.
"..."
Wang Feng.
"These three don't have particularly impressive Martial Spirits," Wang Feng thought. "But they know each other well, so they must be close—probably a team, not a group of strangers who teamed up on the spot."
The young man and woman stared at Lao Hei, speechless.
Si Rong seemed to be the leader of the group. She gave the orders. "The Chrysanthemum Flame Hedgehog's only weak spot is its belly. Everywhere else is practically unbreakable. What a pity—it would've been better if it were eight hundred years old!"
Ling Feng came down from a distant tree. He was the one who'd delivered the fatal blow to the Chrysanthemum Flame Hedgehog at the critical moment.
"The spines that Chrysanthemum Flame Hedgehog shoots are scorching hot. I can't believe Lao Hei can take so much punishment."
"Let's keep going. The Chrysanthemum Flame Hedgehog probably isn't dead. We don't need its Spirit Ring, so let's leave it alive for someone else," Si Rong said with practiced ease.
Lao Hei looked at Wang Feng and introduced himself. "I'm Lao Hei. You can just call me that. My Martial Spirit is the Black Rock Bear. I'm very slow, but I have excellent defense. I'm a Level 29 Battle Soul Master. This guy is Ling Ren. His Martial Spirit is a dagger, and he's very strong on offense. He's Level 28. And this is..."
"..."
Wang Feng.
But the bearded man soon let out a long breath and shouted, "Thanos? That name sounds pretty cool!"
Ling Ren repeated it a few times. "Doesn't sound like a name. More like a codename."
"Anyway, if you're good to go, let's move on. Ah Rong needs a Spirit Ring of around eight hundred years to advance."
Still, they figured the kid simply didn't want to give out his real name, so they didn't press him.
"Your defense really is impressive," Wang Feng said with a smile.
"I'm Si Rong. My Martial Spirit is Iron Tooth Grass, and I'm a Level 30 control-type Spirit Master with powerful control abilities. But it also takes a lot out of me."
