Since he had promised to help it recover, Xia Ran wasn't about to leave it there and do nothing.
Chapter 56: Ice and Fire Yin Yang Eyes
The next morning.
Xia Ran woke up in his tent, ate a little dried food, and prepared to change course and continue onward.
Now that he could fly, finding the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Eyes would be considerably easier.
He hid Little Skylark inside the trunk of a secluded tree and left plenty of low-level Soul Beast meat with it. It should be able to survive for a while.
They were still enemies, after all. He had no reason to waste too much effort on it.
No matter how strong the bond between those two Soul Beasts was, they had been the ones to ambush him first!
After a brief rest, Xia Ran set off again in search of the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Eyes.
The Dark Demon Cloud Wings gave him the ability to fly. Now he only needed to get high up and explore the basin terrain one section at a time.
His Soul Power had already reached level 60. With three Soul Bones and the Black Blade at his side, even a Ten-Thousand-Year Soul Beast wouldn't get the better of him.
Even if flying made him a target for most Soul Beasts, he was confident he could deal with any trouble.
He might even run into a decent Ten-Thousand-Year Soul Beast that came right to him and could serve as his Sixth Soul Ring.
With that in mind, Xia Ran flew straight into the sky and headed for the depths of Sunset Forest.
Whenever he used up too much Soul Power along the way, he perched in a tree to recover, then continued...
By dusk, he spotted a basin in the distance, shrouded in purple mist.
"I found it. That's the poisonous miasma Dugu Bo set up."
Xia Ran was delighted. The thick purple mist before him had to be the poisonous miasma. That old bastard Dugu Bo had planted Jade Phosphorus Seven Absolute Flowers all around the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Eyes to keep any foolish Soul Beasts from entering.
The only uncertainty was whether the old man was home. Xia Ran could use the barrier from his Second Martial Soul to enter the Herb Garden through a spot where the poisonous mist was thin.
But if he happened to run into Dugu Bo, and the other man attacked without a word, that would be troublesome.
Besides, he planned to plant Ah Yin here someday. So the ideal outcome was to get along with the old man and secure his permission.
As he was thinking, a flash of green suddenly burst from the center of the poisonous mist and shot straight toward Xia Ran's face.
"Wait... You're trying to kill me the moment we meet?"
[Void]
The green light passed through Xia Ran's body without losing any force, shooting straight toward the distant horizon.
Xia Ran hadn't expected the old man to really be here. He had only stopped nearby for a few seconds, and the other man had already tried to take his life!
The title Old Poisonous Creature was well deserved!
If that attack had hit him squarely, it might even have triggered his [Undying Cat Demon Body].
Still shaken by his narrow escape, he looked down and saw the thick poisonous mist churning violently.
A streak of dark green shot out. Before Xia Ran could make out what was happening, another blast of green energy came at him.
"Damn it! You won't even give me a chance to speak?"
[Fourth Soul Skill: Clone]
[Soul Bone Skill: Dark Potential]
Xia Ran's figure split into three, and the copies quickly scattered in different directions.
"A human Soul Master?"
"How interesting!"
A dark green figure hovered in midair, gazing at him with amusement from a short distance away.
Dugu Bo had been suppressing his poison with water from the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Eyes in the Herb Garden. He had been on high alert.
When he sensed a surge of dark energy in the sky, he initially assumed it was some foolish Soul Beast. The strange phenomena caused by the Yang Spring and Ice Spring were sometimes so intense that even the poisonous mist couldn't hide them. Every now and then, a flying Soul Beast would pass by and try to investigate.
He hadn't expected a human Soul Master with the ability to fly. And to think this man had dodged his attacks twice in a row, despite facing a Titled Douluo. Dugu Bo couldn't help but grow curious.
Who was this man? How had he found this place?
Meanwhile, Xia Ran took advantage of Dugu Bo's distraction to hurriedly explain himself.
"Senior! I mean you no harm. I was just passing through. Please, don't attack me again!"
His voice rang out from all three directions, echoing faintly.
Hearing the voices made Dugu Bo frown slightly.
"My spiritual power can't even detect this guy's true strength!"
"And his abilities are so bizarre that my attacks pass right through his body."
"Which faction does this young man belong to? I've never heard of a genius with a Martial Soul like that!"
A string of thoughts ran through Dugu Bo's mind. He had launched two attacks as a Titled Douluo, and neither had hit. His opponent had also found time to explain himself. That was enough to prove the man's strength was no joke. At the very least, he had to be a Soul Emperor.
Since the man was only passing through and didn't seem to mean any harm, there was no need to kill him.
Besides, this delay had kept Dugu Bo from suppressing the poison in his body in time. His symptoms were getting worse by the second.
"Get lost within three seconds!"
"Or you'll never leave!"
Dugu Bo fought through the pain and put on a fierce expression as he ordered Xia Ran to leave.
He had to hurry back and suppress the poison. If he waited any longer, it would be too late!
He had expected the boy to tuck his tail between his legs and run. Instead, the other man was still sizing him up.
As the pain grew worse, anger rose in Dugu Bo's heart.
"Three, two..."
The poison was already eating away at him. If he fought again, things would only get worse.
He began counting down, hoping the man would take the hint and leave.
"Senior, you've been poisoned!"
Three voices rang out again!
This time, the man's words struck Dugu Bo like a curse, instantly putting him on high alert!
The shock he felt was no less than when he had first learned about the poison's backlash.
Years of evading pursuit by Spirit Hall, along with the times he'd concealed his poisoning, told him that the man before him had to die!
With that thought, Dugu Bo turned into a blur and appeared in front of one of the figures.
Green scales covered his entire arm. He clamped a hand around the figure's throat and squeezed hard.
The figure's throat shattered, and he vanished in a puff of black smoke!
"Damn it! A clone!"
"On rainy days, your ribs start to itch, and the sensation grows stronger as time passes!"
"It flares up once at noon and once at midnight. Judging by your condition, it should last for over an hour."
"And every night at the third watch, you get needle-like pains in the crown of your head and the center of your chest. Your whole body spasms, for at least half an hour!"
Two voices came from behind him. Dugu Bo was shaken once more.
The man actually knew his symptoms!
That only made it more important to kill him!
The aura of a Titled Douluo burst forth. A towering pillar of green light erupted around Dugu Bo.
Xia Ran looked at the figure in the middle of the scene. The old man had actually completed Martial Soul Possession!
Before Xia Ran could make out his appearance, the green figure blurred again, appearing in front of another clone.
His hand curled into a claw and struck straight for the heart.
His green, snake-scaled arm pierced the figure's chest, crushing the heart.
But all that met his eyes was another puff of black smoke!
Chapter 57: Dugu Bo
"Another clone!"
"Not only have you been poisoned, but the poison has already seeped into your bones."
"This Poison of the Martial Soul can even affect your descendants!"
The final voice rang out!
It completely shattered what little remained of Dugu Bo's fragile composure.
The outside world knew only that he was a Titled Douluo, a man who could get whatever he wanted, a man above all others!
But they didn't know that whenever the poison flared up, he had to endure not only unbearable physical pain but also the grief of losing his family years ago.
If he'd had a choice, he would have gladly given up his poisonous powers and lived a peaceful life with his family in an ordinary household.
Now he had only one granddaughter left in the world, and he could only watch as she suffered the same fate as his wife and son—dying when the poison flared up!
Rage and despair robbed Dugu Bo of his reason. He glared fiercely at the last figure.
"You're asking for death!"
[Soul Bone Skill: Medusa's Gaze]
A beam of green light shot out and struck the last figure dead on!
The figure was petrified instantly, then cracked apart piece by piece and fell completely silent.
