Jack had his own way of thinking. Whether others could understand it or not, that was the will of "Mairui."
The will of Mairui Country was actually rather complicated to explain.
But Sophie would not stand for it. She had cared for him through thick and thin for five years, and now that he had finally awakened, all her painstaking efforts had been rewarded. The breath she had been holding in her heart had finally eased, and she had been waiting to enjoy his tenderness.
Yet here he was, not even fully recovered, accusing her of betrayal. It truly left her furious—if not for my "betrayal," you would still be a living corpse. How could you have the nerve to say that about me?
She truly liked Xia Nation. After coming into contact with Sophia and the Daoist temple, that fondness had only grown stronger.
So she answered frankly, "If this is your attitude, I can no longer face Sophia, nor can I face the Daoist temple and my friends from Xia Nation... Are you trying to make me a laughingstock?"
"I only like ancient Xia Nation. It lets me feel the vicissitudes of Years," Jack did not answer directly. "But the powerful Xia Nation of today may mean disaster for the civilized world."
Sophie fell silent for a while before asking, "You cannot possibly be grateful to them. Am I right?"
"I never felt I had to be grateful to them," Jack answered bluntly. After a pause, he added, "Fine, even if they rescued me from my vegetative state, I can give them money... Then neither side owes the other anything!"
Sophie's expression darkened as she spoke solemnly. "You must fulfill the vow... if you are willing to respect the hardships I have endured over the past five years."
