Adventures Rule the Day
At eight in the evening, it was just about time for the people of Yang City to eat dinner.
Feng Jun walked out of the dormitory building, wound through a small alley, and arrived at a dingy little hole-in-the-wall restaurant, which was the place he frequented for meals.
The cost of living in Yang City was not low, but deep within the alleys, there were also small restaurants with very affordable prices.
When Feng Jun ate ordinarily, a large bowl of fried noodles, a plate of cold tofu, and a chicken leg were enough to make him full. In all honesty, this appetite was already quite large.
Yet, today he ordered a full three large bowls of fried noodles, two vegetable dishes, and five chicken legs, and later he extravagantly added a plate of husband and wife lung slices before he felt his stomach was not quite so empty.
Finally, he asked for two large bowls of noodle soup—this was called sealing the gaps—and only then did he feel a slight sense of fullness and bloating.
After paying, he walked away with his belly sticking out, completely unmindful of the restaurant owner's astonished gaze.
However, the moment he stepped out of the restaurant, Feng Jun froze. Huh? Mobile payment... I can't get into the space?
It seemed the top priority was still to figure out what benefits this adventure could bring him.
Of course, first he had to understand how the adventure happened. Was the phone changed, or was he changed?
Sitting under a bright streetlamp, he meticulously flipped through his phone, then looked at his left hand. He was left-handed, and when he was electrocuted, the phone was clutched in his left hand.
The palm of his left hand had slight swelling. He didn't know if it was from being struck by lightning or from saying holy shit too many times.
From the surface, however, he truly could not see much abnormality.
When he flicked his wrist, he was startled to discover that on his forearm, near the wrist close to the back of the hand, there was a faint, light cyan mark. What the hell, my Stone Ring is gone?
Three years ago during his university internship, he had gone to travel in Bingzhou for a few days with a roommate. In the Ningpi Mountain range to the east of Bingzhou, there was a rarely visited valley, and back then a group of hot-blooded, youthful college students had gone in to play for a round.
There was a patch of dilapidated pagoda forest in the valley that was rumored to have a history of over a thousand years, and it was right here that Feng Jun had picked up a cyan-colored Stone Ring.
The Stone Ring was oblate, with an outer diameter of a little over two centimeters and an inner diameter of nearly three millimeters. It felt cool to the touch and was quite heavy, almost rivaling the density of iron.
This Stone Ring was unassuming in appearance, yet it had one advantage: it was incomparably cool even in the summer.
Feng Jun had originally picked it up at random to fiddle with, not knowing when he might misplace it. However, when he brought the Stone Ring back to Xiayang University, he discovered that in scorching hot Jiangxia, this thing could bring him a very comfortable sensation.
This slight coolness was actually a rather subjective feeling; perhaps it was merely psychological suggestion, but Feng Jun hated the heat and felt this item was good, so he threaded it with a red string, wore it on his wrist, and never took it off even when showering.
Now, this Stone Ring had mysteriously vanished, and the red string was also gone. Combined with the light cyan imprint on his wrist, Feng Jun had reason to believe that the Stone Ring had undergone some sort of... thingamajig change after suffering an electric shock.
What that thingamajig actually was, he could not explain, but he could assume that after being struck by lightning, the Stone Ring had merged into his body.
This explanation was quite unscientific, but adventures... ruled the day!
What kind of adventure could be scientifically explained?
After summarizing the antecedent, Feng Jun decisively dismissed the idea of exploring the source—he believed that in the short term, there was no way he would ever pick up another Stone Ring like this again.
He should figure out what this adventure had brought him first, hoping it wouldn't just be holy shit.
First of all, he needed to choose a place with no people and no surveillance to re-experience that magical feeling from just now.
He could not determine whether his consciousness had entered or his physical body had also entered when he stepped into Liaoliao Farm.
In this city blanketed by heavenly eyes, a grown man suddenly vanishing under surveillance could trigger a lot of unnecessary trouble.
Feng Jun did not like trouble, and even less did he want his adventure to be forcefully snatched away by others.
Such a place was actually not hard to find. For example... the restroom at Hongjie Club.
The afternoon lightning and thunder had pierced the transformer outside Hongjie Club. Fortunately, the club had its own generator, and there were quite a few guests coming to work out at night, so the generator was running with a deep roar.
Feng Jun had not gone to work in the afternoon, and many colleagues knew this, but no one stopped him from going to the restroom—after all, times were different now; pedestrians on the street could come in to borrow the restroom, so why couldn't he?
The restroom at Hongjie Club was of a high grade, worthy of the club's image—at the very least, it had partitions and doors that could be locked from the inside.
Feng Jun entered a partition, and half an hour later, he walked out with a gloomy expression.
It was gone. The adventure was gone. There was nothing left. Even when he tapped on Liaoliao Farm again, he could not re-enter that space. Resigned, he could only scatter a handful of forage seeds.
He planned to wait until the forage matured and then try whether he could grass again.
Anyway, during these half an hour, he had made all sorts of attempts, but very regretfully, the old-fogey phone was just an old-fogey phone, with no surprises happening.
The phone only had 83% battery remaining, and the two circles of the percent sign seemed like a pair of eyes coldly looking at him, silently releasing a thick mockery: I am just a mobile phone, are you thinking a bit too much, dude?
Yet, Feng Jun was a rather confident person, and he did not believe that the evening's adventure was a hallucination.
Something I failed to notice must have happened!
As a holder of a dual degree, he did not lack the spirit of inquiry; in fact, he greatly enjoyed challenging various high-difficulty tasks.
Feng Jun quickly adjusted his mood, then strode toward the door. Just as he was about to walk out of the club's main entrance, a glamorous woman in her thirties came walking rapidly from the opposite direction.
The woman was quite tall, easily reaching one hundred and seventy centimeters, with a graceful figure and exquisite curves, wearing a light brown OL summer suit.
Feng Jun stopped in his tracks and respectfully greeted the woman, "Good evening, Red Sister. Still coming over this late?"
The woman was none other than Zhang Weihong, the general manager of Hongjie Cultural Entertainment Co. She disliked others addressing her as President Zhang, preferring instead to be called "Red Sister".
It was rumored that the reason Hongjie Club was given such a name was also a play on the homophone of "Red Sister".
Red Sister possessed immense clout and an extremely mysterious background in Yang City. One could imagine how a woman—and a glamorous woman at that—could establish a foothold in the entertainment industry... well, the cultural and sports industry, and not be a tough character?
There were rumors that the initial motivation behind Zhang Weihong running this fitness club was to find a place of pastime for her close girlfriends; since it was her own establishment, they didn't need to have any misgivings when playing, and coupled with the fact that they could also work out, why wouldn't she?
Hearing this, Red Sister tilted her head and glanced slightly at him, shockingly failing to make any reaction at all, as if she were looking at empty air, and then walked briskly inside.
Feng Jun did not mind it. Leaders had always been so aloof toward their own employees, and everyone was used to it. Everyone knew she was a woman whose eyes were higher than the top of her head, and words like "kindness" and "maternity" were her natural enemies.
Feng Jun returned to his dorm and tinkered with his phone for another two hours. Waiting until the battery level dropped to 40%, he shoved the phone under his pillow and drifted into a hazy sleep. His last thought before falling asleep was that he had to go buy a charger tomorrow.
Yes, he had made up his mind to continue going to work tomorrow.
As for the reason? It was very simple. He could not be certain whether the fortuitous encounter was related to the room he lived in, and before figuring out the cause and effect, he definitely should not leave rashly.
Compared to a fortuitous encounter, those troubles encountered at work were truly not worth mentioning.
Early the next morning, he arrived at the club and began preparations before opening, such as turning on the air conditioner and water dispenser, and inspecting the hygiene conditions. He even had to step in and remedy any areas that were not cleaned properly.
After finishing all this, it was seven-thirty in the morning, and four or five members had already arrived at the clubhouse to do their morning exercises.
Feng Jun planned to go grab a bite to eat. Walking to the club entrance, the young girl at the front desk happened to walk in from outside and greeted him upon seeing him. "Dual Degree, are you going to buy breakfast? Help me buy one too."
The young girl's surname was Li, and her relationship with him was passable in the past. Although the title Dual Degree had a slightly teasing meaning, at least she did not call him a graduate student.
Feng Jun hesitated for a moment. He was not annoyed by this title, but he suddenly remembered that the front desk reception area actually had a mobile phone charger. That was a convenient service provided for guests, and the club's staff would occasionally use it.
However, in the end, he still did not open his mouth to borrow the charger. He was going to buy another one anyway, so why covet this little convenience?
By the time he finished breakfast and brought a breakfast back for Little Li, it was almost seven-fifty. He had eaten quite a bit for breakfast today, more than twice his usual amount.
Yet his pitiful old-model phone did not get an energy replenishment, and now it only had twelve percent power left, which certainly would not last through the entire morning.
At this time slot, some members had already left the gym to go to work. Feng Jun took a walk around the area he was responsible for and found sweat stains on a treadmill, immediately taking a rag to wipe it down.
After wiping, he took the rag to the employee room to wash it, only to suddenly see a light green mobile phone charger on the windowsill.
This charger with its non-mainstream color belonged precisely to Liu Shuming. Someone had once mocked it, but Coach Liu had answered proudly, "Cuckolding others is also green, you bunch of losers... how could you possibly understand the mindset of a successful man?"
Since it belonged to that fellow, there was no harm in using it for free. Feng Jun picked up one end of the charging cable, plugged it into his phone, and then picked up the charging plug, inserting it into the power outlet on the wall.
The next moment, with a loud bang, sparks flew in all directions.
Immediately following that, someone outside shouted loudly, "What the fuck, the transformer that was just fixed, how did it blow up again?"
