Background and Story Role

Xia Xiaoyu recognized Feng Jun in a social-media video after he had left Hongjie Club. She sought him out because she remained grateful that he had intervened when Liu Shuming threatened to humiliate her; despite her earlier poor treatment of Feng, she believed he had protected her dignity. 29

When Hongjie Club revealed that Feng had been dismissed and could not be located, Xiaoyu reacted with anger. She repeatedly pressed the club for information, threatened to involve more influential people, and pushed the Yu family to intervene. The resulting electrical-system “maintenance” placed Hongjie under indefinite power cuts, forcing the club to renew its search for Feng. 29 35 36

She eventually encountered Feng with Wang Haifeng while Feng was meeting Ye Qingyi. Realizing that Feng appeared to be pursuing Ye rather than paying attention to her left Xiaoyu awkward and conflicted. 38 39

At Yuan Huapeng’s dinner, Xiaoyu reunited with Gao Qiang through her military-connected family; one of her cousins had served with him. Gao inferred that she was quietly carrying an unrequited interest in Feng, although Xiaoyu publicly described their relationship as simply having known one another before. 206

Xiaoyu also intervened when Yu Qingzhu argued with Feng, identifying Feng as her brother’s former comrade and a childhood acquaintance. Her attempt to mediate reflected both loyalty to Qingzhu and concern that their conflict not worsen. 207
