Ch. 3141Chen Yang's Miserable Fate
Summary of “Chenyang’s Misfortune”
Key Plot Points and Events
- True Immortal Chenyang explains to Feng Jun that the Profound Yellow Sect and Primal Steel Gate discovered and reopened an abandoned spatial jump point in the Insectoid World. It leads to a barren frontier near a Human Federation star system, allowing Heavenly Zither cultivators to secretly enter Federation territory.
- The Two Sects organized a large expedition of roughly six hundred cultivators—mostly Gold Core Adepts, with more than thirty Nascent Soul cultivators—to investigate the Federation and the Insectoids. However, news of an Insectoid surprise attack on the Bewitching Corridor diverted the expedition there.
- Chenyang participated in repeated battles to aid besieged Human cultivators. Exhausted and spiritually injured, he attempted to retreat using a spatial movement technique but collided with an Insectoid spatial art and a Nascent Soul-level Golden Beetle.
- The collision severely injured Chenyang, knocked his Nascent Soul unconscious, and caused him to crash through a large meteorite. His protective sword talisman eventually killed the beetle.
- Gold Core Adept Qingping of the Spirit Plant Dao found Chenyang, carried him away, and fought off pursuing Insectoids. Qingping himself was gravely wounded while protecting Chenyang.
- The two were rescued by a Federation Single-Soldier Assault Ship piloted by the badly injured soldier Roland. The ship belonged to Roland’s deceased older brother, who had returned to the battlefield to save her and two comrades, including Levin.
- Levin objected to rescuing the cultivators and later reported their presence, apparently hoping Federation forces would capture or study them. Roland nevertheless insisted on protecting them because her brother had saved them.
- Qingping later helped rescue another Federation soldier, losing half his body in the process. Chenyang conserved his remaining strength rather than directly intervening, secretly using Spirit Stones to recover.
- The group eventually hid inside an Insectoid swarm using radio silence and a Concealment Array. Feng Jun’s arrival and Spirit-Restoration Array stabilized Chenyang and Qingping, giving them a chance to recover.
- Chenyang’s main injury is to his Divine Soul, which Feng Jun’s Soul-Nourishing Liquid can treat. He offers to pay for Feng Jun’s help in deducing a suitable treatment for Qingping.
- Feng Jun suggests taking the cultivators back to the spatial passage and incapacitating the Federation soldiers so that the Heavenly Zither’s secrets remain hidden. Qingping immediately objects, especially because Roland’s condition is too fragile to withstand further disturbance.
Character Developments
- True Immortal Chenyang: Revealed as a powerful but catastrophically unlucky combatant. Despite severe injuries, he remains responsible and compassionate, refusing to kill Levin because of Roland’s feelings and preserving Qingping’s life even at personal risk.
- Adept Qingping: Demonstrates courage and loyalty by rescuing Chenyang, carrying him through enemy pursuit, and later sacrificing half his body to save another Federation soldier. His concern for Roland suggests a strong emotional attachment.
- Roland: Shown as decisive and compassionate. Despite the danger of harboring members of another civilization, she chooses to rescue Chenyang and Qingping, likely out of gratitude for her brother’s principles and actions.
- Levin: Becomes a source of tension and distrust. He is not portrayed as cowardly, but his decision to report the cultivators appears motivated by personal or institutional interest in studying them.
- Feng Jun: Acts as healer, strategist, and protector of Heavenly Zither secrets. He must balance aiding allies with preventing the Federation soldiers from discovering the cultivators’ origins and abilities.
Significant Themes
- Misfortune and fate: Chenyang’s injuries result from an absurd chain of spatial accidents rather than a straightforward defeat, emphasizing how even powerful cultivators can be undone by chance.
- Mutual aid amid conflict: Although the Heavenly Zither cultivators and Federation soldiers are not formal allies, individuals repeatedly risk themselves to save others.
- Loyalty and sacrifice: Qingping, Roland, and Roland’s brother all prioritize comrades and fellow survivors over personal safety.
- Trust across civilizations: The chapter explores suspicion between the cultivators and Federation soldiers, while showing that personal compassion can overcome political and cultural divisions.
- Secrecy versus compassion: Feng Jun and Chenyang must conceal the Heavenly Zither’s existence, but doing so risks harming people who have helped them.
- The cost of war: The wounded soldiers and cultivators reveal how prolonged combat produces exhaustion, disability, grief, and morally difficult decisions.
Character Interactions
- Feng Jun and Chenyang: Discuss the Heavenly Zither’s relationship with the Human Federation and Chenyang’s injuries. Feng Jun offers practical assistance, while Chenyang promises resources and payment for Qingping’s treatment.
- Chenyang and Qingping: Their relationship is defined by mutual rescue and battlefield loyalty. Qingping saves Chenyang physically, while Chenyang preserves his own strength in order to help them both survive.
- Chenyang and Levin: Chenyang distrusts and dislikes Levin because he reports their presence and seems interested in using them as research subjects.
- Chenyang and Roland: Chenyang respects Roland’s decision to shelter them and refuses to kill Levin partly out of consideration for her.
- Qingping and Roland: Qingping becomes particularly protective of Roland, objecting to Feng Jun’s plan to incapacitate her and emphasizing that her injuries cannot endure further turmoil.
- Roland and Levin: Roland overrules Levin’s objections to rescuing the cultivators, while Levin’s later report creates conflict between his caution and Roland’s compassion.
