Power Progression
| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Ninth Stage Dou Qi → Dou Zhe | 13 465 | A cultivator at the Ninth Stage must condense a Qi Vortex in the body to become a Dou Zhe. Failure can reduce their cultivation to the Eighth Stage; Qi Gathering Powder guarantees success. |
| Dou Shi → Da Dou Shi | 14 | Requires Dou Qi solidification: liquid Qi in the dantian is compressed into a core while absorbing a massive quantity of Heaven and Earth Energy. A Core Condensing Pill can directly form this crystal core. |
| Peak Dou Huang → Dou Zong | 22 23 | Liuli breaks through after tempering unstable Dou Qi, mastering Space Power, and refining a Sect Breaking Pill. Her breakthrough forms a silver crystal core known as a Sword Heart. |
| Peak Dou Zong → Dou Venerate | 250 | Crossing the realm barrier is only the first step; the cultivator must then absorb enormous amounts of Heaven and Earth Energy to expand their Dou Qi. |
| Dou Saint → Dou Di | 297 539 | A Dou Saint requires Source Qi—also called Emperor Origin—to attempt advancement into the Dou Di realm. Source Qi can also be used for cultivation after the breakthrough. |
Cultivation and Circulation
Dou Qi is gathered from Heaven and Earth Energy through a cultivation technique. The refined energy enters the dantian, circulates through the meridians, and nourishes the cultivator’s bones and flesh. A Qi Vortex forms the foundation of a true Dou Zhe’s cultivation. 13 461 465
A cultivator’s usable Dou Qi is finite. Maintaining movement techniques, wings, barriers, and powerful Dou Skills rapidly consumes reserves; exhausting them can leave the user unable to continue fighting. 2 36 66
- Dantian and sea of qi — store and refine the energy circulated through the body. 22 174 530
- Meridians — carry Dou Qi to the body and techniques; severe injury or the loss of a limb can disrupt this cycle and hinder future cultivation. 133
- Soul Power — can be consumed alongside Dou Qi by advanced applications, such as Xiao Yan’s Formless Dou Qi. 72
- Heaven and Earth Energy — serves as the fundamental external resource for cultivation and breakthroughs. 14 250 387
Manifestations and Applications
Combat Release
Dou Qi can be released beyond the body as palm strikes, fist winds, sword light, weapon radiance, and other Dou Skills. Its form depends on the user’s cultivation method, attribute, weapon, and technique. 16 66 95 152
- Condensed attacks can take the shape of enormous palms, claws, sword auras, or ruler radiance. 16 36 152
- Weapon reinforcement allows Dou Qi and intent to be compressed into a weapon strike, as with Liu Qing’s Inch Radiance. 152
- Energy barriers can shield the user from destructive force, though their effectiveness depends on the user’s available reserves and strength. 76
- Physical enhancement allows users to strengthen strikes, speed, recovery, and durability. 150 301
Flight and Defense
Dou Qi wings allow sustained aerial movement until the user’s reserves are depleted. The text identifies them as the symbol of becoming a Dou King and elsewhere describes them as a feature of the Dou Wang realm and above. 2 14
Dou Qi can also form external armor. Nalan Yanran condenses a green layer of Dou Qi Armor during her battle with Xiao Yan, using it as a defensive manifestation of her wind-attributed energy. 72
Attributes
Dou Qi may possess elemental attributes. Fire-attributed Dou Qi is especially associated with alchemy, since Alchemists cultivate fire energy to control flames during pill refinement. 48 100
- Fire attribute — supports flame-based Dou Skills and alchemy; high-quality flames can substantially improve a pill refiner’s control. 24 100
- Wind attribute — can form wind blades, sword auras, and tornado-like attacks. 71 72
- Earth attribute — can be used to create heavy, gravity-like condensed attacks. 204
- Silver fire-attributed Dou Qi — Liuli’s energy is silver because of her special cultivation method and absorption of the Yin Yang Twin Flames, despite remaining genuinely fire-attributed. 21 48
Specialized Properties
Formless Dou Qi
Xiao Yan develops Formless Dou Qi, which allows him to render energy invisible and manipulate the release or withdrawal of techniques with unusual precision. 72
- Can halt, erode, and disperse an incoming Dou Skill by disrupting the Dou Qi sustaining it. 72 150
- Can be used to counter devouring-type techniques by attacking their energy foundation rather than their physical form. 204
- Its use drains Soul Power, causing dizziness when overextended. 72
Sword Qi
Liuli’s Sword Heart transforms her Dou Qi into sharp Sword Qi with exceptional offensive and destructive properties. 23
- Sword Qi can tear through palm winds, Dou Skills, defensive barriers, and even Pill Lightning. 154 263
- The Sword Heart accelerates Dou Qi mobilization and can release its stored energy to temporarily increase the user’s strength. 23
- Unlike many temporary amplification Secret Methods, exhausting the Sword Heart’s stored energy does not inherently leave the user weakened. 23
Space Power
At the Dou Zong level, Liuli’s silver Dou Qi contains solid threads of energy capable of tugging at space. She demonstrates this by fracturing space with a Dou Qi-wrapped punch. 22
Resources and Enhancement
| Resource | Effect on Dou Qi |
|---|---|
| Qi Gathering Powder | Guarantees formation of a Qi Vortex for a Ninth Stage Dou Qi cultivator attempting to become a Dou Zhe. 13 |
| Core Condensing Pill | Helps a Dou Shi form the Dou Qi crystal core needed to enter the Da Dou Shi realm. 14 |
| Sect Breaking Pill | Greatly increases the chance of breaking through to Dou Zong. 9 22 |
| Sect Stabilizing Pill | Raises a Dou Zong’s cultivation by at least one star; each user may take it only once. 131 340 |
| Fire Spirit Pearl | Speeds up fire-attributed Dou Qi cultivation and grants resistance against enemy fire-attributed Dou Qi. 48 |
| Li Huo Wu Tong Zhi | Triples the speed at which its user draws in and absorbs fire-attributed Heaven and Earth Energy for nearly three months. 22 |
| Ancient Dragon Essence Blood | Instantly restores a large amount of Dou Qi while tempering the body’s muscles and bones. 390 |
Limitations
- Rapid advancement can leave Dou Qi unstable, requiring prolonged tempering and adjustment before a cultivator can safely use their full strength. 8 22 263
- Stronger realms require increasingly vast quantities of Heaven and Earth Energy; even a Divine Grade Bloodline cannot remove this burden at the Dou Saint level. 250 485
- High-output techniques can consume most of a cultivator’s reserves in a single use. Xiao Yan’s four-ring Nine Heavens Falling Fire Palm drains nearly sixty percent of his Dou Qi. 95
- Without Dou Qi to protect the body, even a powerful cultivator becomes vulnerable to ordinary wounds and must rely on physical cultivation or medicine instead. 301
History and Source Qi
According to Senior Su’s account, more and more human and Magical Beast Dou Dis appeared over the course of the continent’s ancient history, dividing territories and protecting their descendants; these lineages developed into the Ancient Clans. 297
When the Hundred Dou Di was born, a small space appeared at the center of the continent and released Source Qi, the origin energy required for a Dou Saint to enter the Dou Di realm. The same energy enabled the number of Dou Dis to grow dramatically in ancient times. 297
Source Qi later became scarce enough that the Emperor-grade Pill Prototype within Tou She Ancient God’s Cave Mansion was considered vital to Hun Tiandi’s attempt to reach Dou Di. 539
