Background / History

Yu Xiaogang was born the son of Yu Yuanzhen, Sect Master of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan. During his martial soul awakening, his expected dragon martial soul mutated into Luo Sanpao, a pig-like creature with small wings. He interpreted the clan’s concern and his father’s support as mockery and self-serving pity. 60

Yu Yuanzhen personally taught him, assigned him resources from his own cultivation quota, and repeatedly defended his position within the clan against the elders. Yu Xiaogang nevertheless regarded the support as humiliating “handouts” and left the clan alone at eighteen. 60 61

After leaving home, Yu Xiaogang traveled the continent seeking recognition. He secretly took ancient martial soul texts from the clan library, edited and combined them, and presented the resulting material as his own theories. His father covertly funded and protected him, including arranging opportunities for him to lecture. 62

A lecture at a Martial Soul Hall branch brought him to Bibi Dong, then the Hall’s Saintess. He exploited her admiration to obtain restricted Martial Soul Hall archives, later repackaging their contents to establish the public reputation of “Grandmaster.” 63 64 65

Yu Xiaogang is depicted as a thin man whose cultivated air and composed bearing often mask his insecurity and arrogance. During his public confrontations, he commonly stands with his hands behind his back and his chin raised. 59
