Communications within Raccoon City were restored six days after the crisis began.
Serum materials from the Nairobi branch in Africa arrived in Raccoon City, and production of the Airborne Serum was restarted according to the original operating procedures, successfully yielding a new batch.
This batch of serum was also rushed to every branch for release, effectively cleaning up the mess Umbrella Corporation had made.
Many people in Tokyo captured videos of zombies eating people, but it didn't matter. Umbrella Corporation was the final authority in the United States, and the United States was the final authority in that tiny corner of the world, so this minor impact could be easily suppressed.
The Raccoon City incident spread rapidly across the world through the restored communications. Duncan, busy beyond measure, had no choice but to rush to Washington to hold a press conference in coordination with the relevant departments. He laid out the sequence of events and a series of evidence, while promising a large amount of benefits to the people and the nation—mostly in the form of bribes.
Umbrella Corporation successfully shifted the blame, dumping all public hatred onto a fabricated case of corporate espionage.
Facing the cameras of numerous media outlets, Duncan, who had never been in the spotlight before, performed exceptionally well. This was due to his broad vision and great magnanimity.
Although the people here were fooled into stupidity and only knew how to fight among themselves, it didn't matter. He, and Umbrella Corporation, would surely lead humanity into a new era!
After gaining control of Umbrella Corporation's power, Duncan's perspective had broadened. He had originally intended to cooperate with various nations to develop the new world, but after intuitively understanding the energy and influence of Umbrella, he abandoned that idea.
Umbrella was fully capable of developing the resources of other worlds independently in the early stages. Once their power was sufficient, they could then cooperate with various nations, which would avoid the trouble of getting entangled in negotiations with various interest groups.
Facing all sorts of microphones and cameras, Duncan stood behind the podium bearing the Umbrella logo like an unyielding warrior and said in a deep voice: "Umbrella Corporation has learned from this lesson and will make necessary changes. We will implement the following, including but not limited to: publishing research projects, disclosing financial status, announcing the number of experiments, reporting experimental progress, publicly releasing research results, and regularly inviting people from all walks of life to visit Umbrella's experimental bases, among many other safeguard measures!"
Click, click, click...
The shutter of a camera held by a reporter from the island nation snapped frantically, recording this scene in its entirety.
In the corner of the press conference hall, Steve and Natasha watched Duncan, who was speaking eloquently on stage, and triggered the following conversation.
"This reminds me of the old days..." Steve's eyes were filled with nostalgia.
"Fighting in a war?" Natasha asked curiously.
"No, it's the experience of being invited by a congressman to sell war bonds."
The mouths of capitalists were all the same.
After the press conference ended, Duncan took Natasha and Steve to leave the venue, ignoring the "excuse me" from a large group of reporters behind them. Once you start talking to them, there would surely be endless questions.
After finishing the final press conference, the three of them boarded an Umbrella plane and returned to Raccoon City. This Raccoon City crisis had caused Umbrella's market value to shrink by a fraction of a percent, while direct monetary losses reached as high as 300 million dollars.
The "humanitarian aid" for the citizens of Raccoon City alone cost 700 million. This amount of money was nothing to Umbrella, but if they didn't spend it, they might be held accountable for the incident indefinitely.
Sitting on the plane, Duncan rubbed his temples in exhaustion. Only after truly becoming the CEO of a major corporation did he realize how tiring the job actually was.
The main issue was that a large portion of the company's senior management had been purged, and those who had been temporarily promoted were not yet familiar with the procedures, leaving most decisions to Duncan.
Duncan felt he needed to find an entire secretarial team. Natasha was one of the best candidates, so he turned his head to Natasha, who was reading documents, and said hopefully: "Natasha, I have a secretary position here. Are you interested in trying it out?"
Natasha refused quite bluntly, "Thanks, but I already have a new job. If you're short on people, I can help you recruit some."
She spoke with great confidence. Her experience as a secretarial agent gave her a sharp eye for people, so helping Duncan recruit some real talent wouldn't be a problem.
They had been in the Resident Evil world for six days. Tony had already returned to Marvel first and was busy preparing for the cooperation between Stark Industries and Umbrella Corporation. They had nothing left to do.
Natasha might still be able to help, but Steve was truly uncomfortable. Every day while Duncan worked, he could only stay vigilant while reading the local newspapers to keep up with the news.
Or he would find some books from this world to learn about the history of the World Wars.
The history of World War II in this world was not much different from Marvel's, except that there was no Hydra in this world. The "Little Mustache" was defeated by the Allied forces, and the World War was won.
Steve had a strong interest in the history of the Resident Evil world, but protection missions were not his specialty. He was better suited for taking the initiative rather than staying in a fixed place to protect someone.
"Then I'll leave it to you. I don't have anyone under me! If you agreed, I'd even want to create a clone of you to help me work!"
Duncan gave up, lowering the angle of his chair to lie down.
Natasha rolled her eyes at Duncan.
After several hours of flight, the plane arrived back in Raccoon City.
The virus leak crisis had happened six days ago. This city of 100,000 people had almost returned to its original order, with only the tombstones erected in the Raccoon City cemetery proving that the virus leak had actually occurred.
After the quarantine ended, many residents of Raccoon City chose to leave, including the shop owner Kendo.
Duncan had paid him for the guns, and it didn't matter if he hadn't received the goods; it was considered a subsidy for the citizens.
In the past, Raccoon City was built by Umbrella Corporation as a financial district. There were almost no factories around the city, and over 50% of the residents in the city worked for Umbrella Corporation, while the rest were mostly in the service industry.
Things were different now. To speed up the circulation of materials from Stark Industries, Duncan recruited people to re-plan the city.
They cut down the vast forest outside Meimen Bridge to build logistics channels, and then built an industrial park on the riverbank further away.
Umbrella Corporation had plenty of money, and they didn't need to take out bank loans for infrastructure projects.
Duncan now had a bit of a "nouveau riche" mentality. He would sign off on anything that needed money after just a glance. The Umbrella of this world was so poor that they only had money left.
Now that Duncan had returned to Raccoon City, before he could even grab a meal at the crazy Kenjiji grandfather's place, his secretary Susan, who had come to pick him up, brought some troublesome news.
Duncan said in surprise: "What? My family is waiting for me at the company? I live alone, where would I have family? You must have mistaken me for someone else!"
Susan was stunned upon hearing this. After swiping through the tablet in her hand, the screen displayed Duncan Aremus's personal profile, which clearly stated that Duncan had family.
Could it be...
