After moving the truckload of supplies into the warehouse, Duncan sent the truck driver and the helicopter away, leaving only the members of the three squads behind.
The seven men from the three squads lined up in front of and to the sides of Duncan, awaiting his orders.
Except for the security squad that Bark belonged to, the members of the other two squads had no idea what they were about to do.
The seven men of the Special Operations Force were emotionless; even if it were a suicide mission, they would carry it out all the same.
The seven members of the U.B.C.S. were more confused. What kind of mission required delivering a truckload of weapons and ammunition to this warehouse?
Were they launching a small-scale terrorist attack?
Duncan didn't have many reservations about the U.B.C.S., as most of them were employees trained in Umbrella's orphanages; there was no need to worry about whether their families would be crying over their deaths.
Whether one was a "bleeding heart" or not was the kind of internet-brained nonsense Duncan never cared about. As long as it wasn't the kind of "benevolence" that ruined one's worldview like in certain small countries, he didn't really object to it.
"Next, we are going to execute a rather special mission. The content is very simple, and it is highly unlikely that you will encounter any danger. If you have any questions during the mission, you can ask me during rest periods. At all other times, you must obey orders. Do you understand?" Duncan said solemnly.
"Understood, sir!" *3
The leaders of the three squads spoke in unison, stating their positions.
Duncan didn't waste any more words. He waved for them to get back into the vehicles, preparing to set off and enter another world.
It was currently 12:00 PM. The time in the other world was still unclear, and if the flow of time between the two worlds differed, it would need to be calculated.
The door to travel between worlds could be set with coordinates. The first time it was opened, it was at a random location, but after Duncan had entered that world, he could set a two-way passage wherever he wanted.
Just as he was leaving with Bark and the others, he had already set the door's coordinates to the road where they had appeared, so they could drive directly away from that road.
The open space outside the rented warehouse was wide enough. The six vehicles were lined up in a row; the first two were driven by members of the Special Operations Force, the middle two by Duncan and the security squad, and the last two by the U.B.C.S.
Duncan felt slightly nervous. Even though he had tried it once before, the dreamlike traversal still made his blood boil.
"Move out!"
A phantom door attached itself to the warehouse gate. A "mirror-like" space adhered to the front. Even the emotionless clones of the Special Operations Force had their brains briefly stall when they saw such a magical scene.
But soon, the obedience hard-coded into their genes drove them to start their engines and slowly drive into the gateway.
"My God... it's actually real!"
An security team member sitting in the same car as Duncan, who had only heard of but never seen world-traversal, screamed out. Even after being filtered through his gas mask, the intense shock in his voice could not be erased.
The black SUVs passed through the portal one after another, with the U.B.C.S. squad members who had never seen the world sitting in the last two vehicles.
The squad leader was a black man named James. He sat in the passenger seat, watching the car pass through the portal with his own eyes. Beneath his gas mask, there was a shock that even his lenses couldn't hide.
He wasn't sure what this was. A miracle? Some kind of special technology? Spatial transfer technology?
However, after passing through the portal, he knew that this mission would likely not be that simple!
The feeling of crossing worlds wasn't too bad. With the protection of the vehicle body, the scorching heat of midsummer in the other world couldn't affect them before they stepped out.
They successfully entered the other world. There were no extra vehicles nearby, so they could be thankful that no car accidents occurred. There weren't many pedestrians around, nor were there any cops as expected. This time, the crossing was absolutely perfect!
Just then, a blue bus drove up from the intersection ahead.
As the black Umbrella convoy brushed past the bus, an explosion suddenly erupted on the overpass ahead. A person turned into a cannonball, flying down from the overpass, smashing through the windshield of the bus in front, and falling inside.
Screech!
The bus driver was terrified by this sudden situation. In a panic, he slammed the steering wheel, causing the bus to tip over toward Duncan's convoy.
"Oh, shit!" Snow, who was acting as Duncan's driver, cursed while slamming the steering wheel.
It seemed the bus driver realized there were other cars nearby. At the last moment before the bus tipped over, he turned the wheel again. The vehicle flipped over crookedly to the side, only knocking off a side mirror from Duncan's car.
Everyone in the entire convoy was extremely tense due to this sudden change. Unanimously, they all lowered their car windows slightly so that the sounds outside could enter the vehicles, allowing them to judge the situation.
What they heard was alarming. The dense gunfire outside triggered an immediate stress response, and the sound of weapons being chambered echoed incessantly over the radio.
"Stay calm! Don't stop, just get out of here!" At this moment, Duncan was calmer than the others. He gripped the walkie-talkie and ordered them to leave this place of trouble first.
Everything was fine when they came here a while ago, so why did they run into a gunfight the moment they arrived?
The convoy restarted and began to accelerate forward, but things didn't end so simply.
They had just entered under the overpass when an accident occurred again. Another explosion rang out, and a burning car smashed directly from the overpass onto the ground, blocking their path.
Blocking it was one thing, but there was plenty of space on the side to drive around.
However, along with the car, there was also a woman who looked like a diver.
Her brownish-red hair danced in mid-air. The woman landed head-first, but halfway down, she bent her waist and raised her hand, firing a grappling hook toward the back of the overpass.
Relying on this grappling hook, the woman landed safely on the hood of the lead black SUV, and in a very graceful half-squatting position at that.
Then the convoy stopped again. The four members of the Special Operations Force inside the SUV looked at the woman squatting on the hood, and the woman who looked up also stared at the four people sitting inside, her expression almost breaking.
A car full of people, wearing black tactical gear and bulletproof vests, with gas masks on their faces, and the firearms in their hands were clearly fully automatic weapons banned for civilians—this appearance was just too wrong for the middle of the street!
It wasn't like there was a gas leak somewhere; why were you all dressed like this!
"A civilian has appeared, armed with a handgun. Please advise?" The soldier in the passenger seat of the Special Operations Force quickly picked up the walkie-talkie and reported the situation to Duncan while the woman on the hood was still stunned.
Duncan, sitting in the fourth car, rubbed his temples and shouted: "Ignore her, drive!"
Receiving the order, their car prepared to restart and leave.
The woman on the hood of the car also knew when to quit; she jumped off and fled frantically.
At this moment, another person fell from the overpass ahead of the convoy.
This person was different; he was a man with black hair long enough to cover his face, half of which was hidden behind a mask. His left arm was a mechanical limb with a stainless steel finish, and in his right hand, he held a fully equipped M4A1.
"Sir, an armed militant has appeared ahead. Shall we engage?" the soldier in the front passenger seat of the lead vehicle picked up his radio again.
Being interrupted one after another, Duncan felt his blood pressure spike instantly.
