Hiring People to Build a House
Just like that, Li Xuan spent the entire night at it, cultivating more than three thousand Bread Grass plants and over twenty thousand Large Rye Breads before finally using up a single drop of Green Spirit Liquid.
He harvested a Void Pearl full of Large Rye Bread.
Its three cubic meters of space were stuffed to the brim, and it was clear that even the Void Pearl no longer had enough room.
"I finally used up yesterday's drop of Green Spirit Liquid. The growth cycle of this Bread Grass is way too short. I cultivated so much Large Rye Bread that I can't possibly finish it all by myself. Looks like I need to find a way to give it away." Li Xuan said helplessly, dark circles under his eyes. Then he found a corner of the yard and prepared to sleep. After staying up all night, nothing could stop his desire to sleep once the drowsiness hit.
Just as Li Xuan was about to drift off, he suddenly heard a sound outside the door.
"Someone's here?" Li Xuan opened his eyes and hurriedly climbed up from the ground.
"Xuan Ge'er, it's me, Bai Wen!" Bai Wen called into the courtyard while knocking on the door.
"Brother Bai Wen, what is it?" Li Xuan forced himself to perk up, stepped forward, opened the gate, and welcomed Bai Wen into the yard.
The moment Bai Wen entered, he saw the collapsed thatched hut and froze in place.
"Brother Bai Wen, I accidentally collapsed the house around noon yesterday. Do we have anyone here who knows how to repair thatched huts?" Li Xuan scratched his head and asked Bai Wen.
"I do know a few people who can build houses, but asking them for help will probably cost quite a bit." Bai Wen pondered for a moment before answering.
"That's not a problem. Brother Bai Wen, what kind of wages do they usually want?" Li Xuan asked.
"We usually work in exchange for payment." Bai Wen spread his hands helplessly.
In the Flower Sea, there was basically no contact with the outside world, so currency had no value here. The only thing with any use was doing work for others.
"If I have enough food, can that replace payment for labor?" Li Xuan suddenly thought of the Void Pearl full of Large Rye Bread and asked Bai Wen.
"Of course it can! Food is far too precious in the Flower Sea. The food distributed by the cafeteria every day is only enough to keep us from starving to death. Eat until we're full? That's like a dream. If you have food, I can get all of them to come work for you!" Bai Wen said excitedly.
Indeed, the food from the cafeteria each day was far from enough to fill an adult's stomach. It could only ensure that the Flower Slaves did not die.
"Brother Bai Wen, I'll provide you with three meals a day if you help me move flower seedlings for the next two days. Is that okay?" Li Xuan asked.
"Of course! I also know someone in the Flower Sea who has a cart. I'll go borrow it, and we'll be able to move things even faster then." Bai Wen said excitedly.
"That'd be great. Brother Bai Wen, go borrow the cart and tell him I'll give him one day's food for one day's use." Li Xuan agreed without hesitation. Bai Wen was working for him now, after all, so he could not let Bai Wen lose out.
"I'll go contact him right away!" Bai Wen immediately set off to borrow the cart.
"Don't be in such a hurry, Brother Bai Wen. I still have something else I need you to do." Li Xuan stopped the hurried Bai Wen and said with a smile.
"What else is there, Xuan Ge'er?" Bai Wen could barely restrain his thoughts of eating and drinking to his heart's content.
"Help me contact those masons. I want to rebuild my house, and I'll keep them fed as well." Li Xuan shrugged.
"Is there anything else?" Bai Wen asked again uneasily.
"Nope. Go on." Li Xuan smiled and waved his hand.
"Alright!" Bai Wen said before rushing out of his own courtyard.
Li Xuan watched Bai Wen's retreating figure and shook his head helplessly. After eating a clean, white Steamed Bun, he began the day's work.
There were still six hundred flower seedlings waiting for Li Xuan.
Li Xuan was full of energy now. One flower seedling after another was swiftly transferred into flowerpots, waiting to be sent away.
It was not until the sun was high in the sky that Li Xuan finally stopped and wiped the sweat from his face.
"Time for lunch." Li Xuan chuckled and took a Meat Floss Bread out of the Void Pearl.
The Large Rye Bread was for others. Li Xuan had saved the other kinds of bread for himself.
After all, Li Xuan was still growing.
Very quickly, the bread disappeared into Li Xuan's stomach.
Knock, knock, knock...
A sudden knock sounded from outside the door.
"Xuan Ge'er, I'm back." Bai Wen stood outside the courtyard and called to Li Xuan.
"Come in." Li Xuan patted the bread crumbs from his clothes, then opened the door to welcome Bai Wen inside.
But the moment he opened it, he saw four burly men standing behind Bai Wen.
"Xuan Ge'er, these are the best masons in the Flower Sea. You can't go wrong hiring them to build a house." Bai Wen pointed at the four burly men behind him.
The four men were nearly two meters tall, their bodies covered in knotted muscles. They were powerfully built and clearly strong.
"My name is Liu Li. These three are my younger brothers. Our family has been masons for generations, and our craftsmanship is quite good." The oldest of the four stepped forward, bowed to Li Xuan, and spoke.
"Greetings, Uncle Liu. I'll have to trouble you uncles with my house from here on." Li Xuan replied with a smile.
Then Li Xuan welcomed them into the courtyard.
Liu Li looked around. He saw not only the collapsed house, but also the neatly arranged flowerpots in the courtyard, and he was startled by the sight.
But he was only startled for a moment.
"Second, Third, Fourth, help the young master clear away the ruins of the thatched hut first," Liu Li said to the three men behind him.
"Uncle Liu, don't call me young master. You can call me Little Xuan or Xuan Ge'er." Li Xuan smiled.
"Then I won't stand on ceremony. Xuan Ge'er, I'd also like to ask what kind of house you need." Liu Li came before Li Xuan and asked with a simple smile.
"I want to build a brick house and a basement," Li Xuan said.
"A basement? A brick house? Xuan Ge'er, to be honest, this is the Flower Sea. A brick house would be too conspicuous. We should stick with a thatched hut. I can reinforce it for you so it'll still be sturdy. More importantly, we don't have any bricks." Liu Li thought it over before trying to persuade Li Xuan.
"As for a basement, us brothers do know how to build one, but we don't have the materials. The materials needed for a basement have to be strong enough, and we can't manage that," Liu Li said.
"I know someone who can fire bricks. His Martial Soul has a fire attribute, and lots of people have bought bricks from him," Bai Wen suddenly interjected.
"Brother Bai Wen, since you know this person, I'll have to trouble you. Help me buy a batch of bricks," Li Xuan said to Bai Wen with a smile.
"Alright, don't worry, Xuan Ge'er. I'll definitely bargain the price down for you!" Bai Wen patted his chest and said earnestly.
"Uncle Liu, please calculate how many bricks we'll need, then have Brother Bai Wen purchase them," Li Xuan said to Liu Li.
"Alright. I'll calculate it now and explain it to Brother Bai Wen afterward." Liu Li got up and left.
Li Xuan smiled and shook his head, then went back to cultivating seedlings.
