Seeing Emlyn wearing an impatient expression as he tried to goad him with words, Cyril raised an eyebrow and smiled. "Of course I know. But why should I tell you?"

Emlyn curled his lip. "If you really know, why not say it and prove it?"

"Selling information costs money. Have you paid?" Cyril asked calmly.

Emlyn frowned. "But the Fool's name has already spread through the Beyonder circles in Backlund."

Cyril shook his head with a smile. "All that's spread is his Honorific Name. Aren't the rest of the details just things those Beyonders have imagined and made up themselves?"

"But what I have here is genuinely valuable secret information."

"If you want to know, then, since we've known each other so long and fate has brought us together, I'll give you a twentyfold discount and charge you only 100 pounds."

"Twentyfold?" Emlyn's mouth twitched.

He suspected either the other man had something wrong with his head, or he thought Emlyn did.

Do I really look like some foolish Sanguine with "easy mark" written all over my face?

He grumbled to himself, then pointed toward the church entrance. "Goodbye. Don't let the door hit you on the way out."

Cyril shrugged and walked out of the church, in high spirits.

Emlyn glared at his back, took several deep breaths, then turned and walked over to Father Utravsky, who had returned to his seat behind the desk.

"Father, do you know about the Fool who's been circulating in the Beyonder circles recently?"

Father Utravsky gave a slight nod. "The news first spread from a Beyonder gathering in Backlund. They were looking for this Fool's believers and blessed, supposedly somewhere in Backlund."

"What else?" Emlyn pressed eagerly.

Father Utravsky glanced at him and said slowly, "He is an evil god."

Emlyn paused.
