Zanpakuto Rampage?

It was almost midnight, but Kurosaki Ichigo, lying in bed, wasn't the least bit sleepy.
Just a few hours earlier, he'd sensed a strange spiritual pressure and assumed a Hollow had entered the Human World. He'd immediately transformed into a Shinigami and rushed over!
But when he arrived at the source of the strange spiritual pressure, he saw a Senkaimon forming in the air. Then, badly injured, Kuchiki Rukia fell out of it.
That wasn't the most important thing. The most important thing was... the one who had chased Rukia all the way there was her own Zanpakuto, Sode no Shirayuki, which had materialized.
He'd driven Sode no Shirayuki back and saved Rukia, but according to her account, all the Shinigami's Zanpakuto in the Soul Society had gone berserk. Not only had they materialized beside their owners, they'd also attacked them!
And according to Yoruichi, who had gone to investigate in the Soul Society, even the 6th Division captain, Byakuya Kuchiki, had gone missing. All the captain-level Shinigami had gathered in the 4th Division barracks, which hadn't sustained much damage!
This weighed heavily on Ichigo, while also leaving him utterly confused.
After all, Zanpakuto were extensions of a Shinigami's soul, much like their alter egos.
Why would they suddenly materialize? And why would they suddenly rebel?

A strange sound rang out, abruptly interrupting Ichigo's thoughts. He looked toward its source, his expression darkening. "Good thing I'm still awake..."
"Hey, Ichigo! You're still up?"
Wu Biao jumped out of a Hell Cavity, then waved at Ichigo. "Did you save me any food, Brother Biao? That old bastard worked me to the bone today. I'm starving!"
