Li Tui pressed his back against the rock wall, counting silently.
Twenty-seven, twenty-eight, twenty-nine.
Su Lueying still had not come out.
The appointed time was nearly up, yet the inside was abnormally quiet. Li Tui's gaze darkened. He had already shifted his weight slightly, ready to withdraw.
The moment thirty breaths were up, whether she emerged or not, he would leave.
Just as he was about to count "thirty" in his mind—

A crisp sound came from within, as though something had been knocked over.
Li Tui's pupils contracted.
They had been exposed!
Li Tui hesitated no longer. He shot backward into the shadows like an arrow loosed from a bow. The instant he vanished into the darkness—
"Who's there?!"
A rough bellow exploded from inside the barred gate! It was not Scarface, but another man's voice, laced with vigilance.
"Bang!" The barred gate was slammed open, and a small figure scrambled out in disarray—it was Su Lueying. Her steps were unsteady, her left hand clutching her right arm, dark liquid seeping through her fingers.
"You little thief! You're courting death!" came an enraged roar from within. Firelight swayed as a burly figure carrying a saber charged out after her. It was one of the guards who had been standing beside Scarface earlier.
Without looking back, Su Lueying fled for her life toward the deeper darkness of the mine tunnel. The guard cursed as he pursued her relentlessly.
Li Tui lay hidden in the shadows, his expression icy.
As expected, something had gone wrong.
Not only had Su Lueying likely touched something she should not have, she had also gotten herself injured. Worse still, the direction she had chosen to flee in was the exact opposite of their planned escape route.
That stupid woman can't die yet, Li Tui
