Background

Nalan Yanran annulled her engagement to Xiao Yan three days before the story begins, humiliating him and damaging the Xiao Clan's reputation throughout the Jia Ma Empire. By that point, the ring on his finger already housed Yao Lao, who had begun directing his cultivation. 1
