Ch. 243Kuina the Swordswoman

Kuina investigated the mysterious swordsman known as “White Horse” and identified him as Cavendish, then confronted and defeated him during a nighttime raid. After the fight, Cavendish woke up confused and asked where his bed was.

  • Kuina questioned Marines about the strange winds and ordered them to investigate a swordsman with long golden hair and a jeweled longsword.
  • Kuina found a report on Cavendish, who had recently arrived in Rommel with seventy-four men and a horse, and arranged to watch his residence that night.
  • Cavendish left his inn in a vacant, altered state, and Kuina recognized him as “White Horse” when they clashed outside.
  • The Marines arrested Cavendish’s subordinates and Faruru while Kuina continued fighting him.
  • Seeing his subordinates and Faruru stirred Cavendish into a more ferocious attack, and Kuina gained a new insight before defeating him with “One-Sword Style: Severing Sea Waves.”
  • Kuina ordered Cavendish treated and restrained, but he groaned that he was hurt and asked where his bed was.

Ch. 244No Hope, Just Wait for Death

Kuina brought the captured Cavendish to Marineford, where Vice Admiral Wright would decide whether to let him join the Marines. After learning that Wright was Kuina’s senior brother and far more popular than he was, Cavendish fainted in despair.

  • Kuina questioned the imprisoned Cavendish about his nighttime attacks, and he remembered that his sleepwalking personality, White Horse, had gotten him captured.
  • T Bone told Wright that Cavendish’s murderous second personality was dangerous, and that Cavendish wanted to join the Marines to make Kuina fall for him.
  • Wright agreed to meet Cavendish when he reached headquarters and warned that he would teach him fear if his motive for joining had not changed.
  • As Kuina’s warship approached Marineford, she told Cavendish that Wright would decide whether he could join the Marines.
  • Cavendish learned that Kuina’s senior brother was the celebrated Vice Admiral Wright, Orange Valiant, and fainted as the ship entered the harbor.

Ch. 245The Narcissistic Cavendish

Cavendish asked to join the Marines, and Wright agreed on the condition that he improve his strength. Wright subdued and treated Cavendish’s dangerous second personality, leaving Cavendish able to control it as a mental enhancement, and Kuina took him to enlist.

  • Cavendish lavishly praised Wright and asked to join the Marines.
  • Kuina challenged Cavendish’s swordsmanship, and Wright told him to catch up to her before he could follow him.
  • Wright knocked out Cavendish’s White Horse personality and used Holy Light Power to turn it into a controllable mental enhancement.
  • Cavendish woke with control over White Horse, and Kuina explained that its boosts to his swordsmanship and speed were limited to fifty percent.
  • Kuina took Cavendish to complete his enlistment paperwork and report to T-Bone, telling him to handle his attendants, horse, and military training.

Ch. 246Alabasta's Offensive and Defensive Battle

King Cobra learned that Crocodile’s plot was causing drought and unrest across Alabasta, and he resolved to force Crocodile to act before he was ready. A month later, Crocodile discovered that the royal family was investigating Baroque Works and ordered the Utopia plan’s prelude to begin ahead of schedule.

  • Igaram reported that rainfall had dropped in Alabasta’s inland cities while increasing in Alubarna, and that Crocodile’s reputation and rumors about the royal family’s control of rain were spreading.
  • Cobra learned that the royal guard had identified Baroque Works agents and suspected unrest, then decided to make Crocodile launch his plan early so the kingdom could obtain evidence against him.
  • A month later, Nico Robin told Crocodile that Cobra’s water-storage measures and the royal guard’s investigations were slowing Baroque Works’ plans.
  • Crocodile ordered Baroque Works’ high-ranking agents to begin the prelude to the Utopia plan in one month and declared that no rain would fall in Alabasta’s inland regions during that time.

Ch. 247Everyone in Position

Cobra identified Crocodile’s next moves and secured evidence against Baroque Works, while Wright arranged Marine support for Alabasta. The Marines assembled at the palace, ready to confront Crocodile and his senior officers.

  • Cobra learned that drought, damage to oases, and rumors about Dance Powder were spreading, and predicted Crocodile would provoke rebellion and try to control the king.
  • Nico Robin summoned Baroque Works’ senior officers to Rainbase, where they learned that Mr.0 was Crocodile and Miss All Sunday was Nico Robin.
  • Wright read Cobra’s report that Alabasta had obtained the senior officers’ list and requested high-end Marine support, then asked Smoker to lead the mission against Crocodile.
  • Smoker agreed to confront Crocodile, and Wright assigned Hina, T-Bone, Kuina, Tashigi, and Cavendish to assist against Crocodile’s elite subordinates.
  • Wright and the Marine team arrived before Cobra through the Lightforged Beacon, and Cobra welcomed them in the name of justice.

Ch. 248The King and Dance Powder

Cavendish exposed Baroque Works’ scheme to frame King Cobra with Dance Powder in Oil Flower. He revealed that the apparent king was Mr. 2, Bon Clay, and urged the people to spread the truth as Baroque Works faced a final confrontation.

  • Crocodile abandoned his original plan because the lack of drought made rebellion against Alabasta’s 600,000-strong army unlikely.
  • A cargo ship crashed into Oil Flower’s harbor, and the false Cobra ordered the spilled cargo burned before the crowd could inspect it.
  • Rain fell as the fire burned, leading the people to suspect that the cargo was banned Dance Powder being used to frame the king.
  • The false Cobra ordered the Kingdom Army to arrest witnesses and destroy the city, but Cavendish intervened and defeated the attacking soldiers.
  • Cavendish declared that the real Cobra was at the palace and revealed the impostor as Baroque Works’ Mr. 2, Bon Clay.
  • Cavendish told the crowd to inform people in every city that Baroque Works had tried to frame the royal family and would be uprooted.

Ch. 249Okama, Assassin, and Bar Owner

Cavendish fought Bon Clay while Kuina and Tashigi intercepted Mr.1 and Miss Doublefinger on the road to Alubarna. The two Marine pairs battled the Baroque Works agents as the agents suspected their boss’s plan had been exposed.

  • Mr.1 and Miss Doublefinger left Bon Clay to continue toward Alubarna, while Bon Clay challenged Cavendish and claimed they were kindred spirits.
  • Kuina and Tashigi stopped the Turtle Car and identified Mr.1 and Miss Doublefinger as their opponents.
  • Mr.1 recognized Kuina and Tashigi as Marine rookies connected to Wright, and Kuina challenged his claim that swordsmen could never injure him.
  • Kuina blocked Mr.1’s attacks and destroyed two of his moves with a single slash.
  • Miss Doublefinger attacked Tashigi with her Spike-Spike Fruit powers, but Tashigi blocked her rapid strikes with her sword.

Ch. 250Three Swordsmen

Kuina, Tashigi, and Cavendish defeated Baroque Works agents in Oil Flower. The three captured their opponents, with Cavendish using his White Horse state to defeat Mr. 2.

  • Kuina defeated Mr.1 with a single Iron Cutting slash and cuffed him with Sea Stone Handcuffs.
  • Tashigi defeated Miss. Doublefinger and declared that justice meant protecting the country she had tried to seize.
  • Kuina and Tashigi praised each other's swordsmanship, then left Cavendish to find his own way because the Turtle Car could hold only four people.
  • Cavendish saw Mr. 2 transform into his face and was briefly distracted before identifying a flaw in his Okama Kenpo.
  • Cavendish entered his White Horse state and defeated Mr. 2 with Beautiful Sword: Blue Bird, then cuffed him after condemning his attacks on civilians.

Ch. 251The Collapsing Plan

Smoker intercepted Crocodile on the road to Alubarna, while Hina and T-Bone defeated Baroque Works agents around the capital and palace. Wright revealed that the palace plot had been stopped, and Cobra prepared to question Nico Robin.

  • Smoker confronted Crocodile and began a battle after revealing that Wright had ordered him to arrest Crocodile.
  • Hina defeated Mr. 5, Miss. Valentine, and lower-ranked Baroque Works agents, then coordinated with Chaka to protect the people and Princess Vivi.
  • T-Bone resisted Miss. Goldenweek's color suggestions and used Observation Haki to see through Mr. 3's wax decoys as the pair fought in the palace courtyard.
  • Wright and the palace guards captured Mr. 4 and Miss. Merry Christmas before they could reach Cobra, while Wright restrained Dog Gun Sula and explained how it had eaten a Devil Fruit.
  • Cobra saw Nico Robin in the palace and said that he needed to have a good talk with her.

Ch. 252The Total Defeat

Smoker defeated and captured Crocodile, while T-Bone defeated and captured Mr.3, ending Baroque Works' operation in Alabasta. Light told Cobra that Crocodile’s plan had failed and confronted Nico Robin, who was shaken when Light mentioned Kuzan.

  • Smoker used Armament Haki to strike Crocodile, then defeated and handcuffed him.
  • T-Bone cut through Mr.3’s Candle Champion armor, defeated him, and placed him in Sea Stone Handcuffs.
  • Light asked Nico Robin why she had revealed Baroque Works’ senior agents to Cobra, and she admitted Crocodile’s plan had fallen apart.
  • Smoker reported Crocodile’s capture, and Light said Hina, Kuina, Cavendish, and T-Bone had also dealt with their opponents.
  • Cobra questioned Robin about Crocodile’s objective, and Light said he would not arrest her because Kuzan had been watching over her.
  • Robin’s pupils widened when Light mentioned Kuzan.

Ch. 253Poneglyphs and Ancient Weapons

Wright confronted Robin about the secrets of Ohara and learned that she and Crocodile had sought Alabasta’s Poneglyph, which Crocodile hoped would reveal the location of Pluto. Cobra chose to trust Wright and Robin, leading them to the Poneglyph beneath the royal tomb; they reached the chamber, but its writing had not yet been read.

  • Wright used an Eternal Fire to calm Robin, then revealed how much he knew about Ohara, the Void Century, and the Great Kingdom.
  • Wright and Cobra assured Robin that they would not punish her for her past actions, and Wright asked her to explain her and Crocodile’s objective.
  • Robin admitted that she had wanted to see Alabasta’s Poneglyph, while Crocodile had sought information about the Ancient Weapon Pluto.
  • Cobra invited Wright and Robin to see the Poneglyph, and he led them through a concealed staircase beneath the royal tomb.
  • Cobra opened the chamber door, revealing Alabasta’s Poneglyph to Robin and Wright.

Ch. 254Pluto

Robin revealed that Alabasta’s Poneglyph recorded the location of Pluto on Sky Island Birka, which Wright believed had already been destroyed. Wright planned to investigate Birka and offered Robin a safe place in Alabasta, work dismantling Baroque Works, and a future as Vivi’s teacher; he then told her another Poneglyph might be on the Sky Island he was visiting.

  • Robin told Wright and Cobra that the Poneglyph recorded Pluto’s location on Sky Island Birka, and admitted she had run out of clues in her search for the true history.
  • Wright said Birka had been destroyed about three years earlier and reasoned that Pluto might have been destroyed with it, but decided to investigate who had destroyed the island.
  • Wright arranged for Smoker to handle Crocodile’s affairs and proposed that Robin remain in Alabasta to help Hina dismantle Baroque Works and teach Princess Vivi.
  • Cobra agreed to protect Robin’s identity, and Wright suggested the Lightforged Beacon could provide her with a place to stay on a Sky Island.
  • Wright told Robin that the Sky Island he planned to visit might contain another Poneglyph, renewing her hope.

Ch. 255Beauty Above the Clouds

Wright reported Crocodile’s defeat in Alabasta to Sengoku, then set out to find Sky Island. After flying above a vast bank of clouds, he discovered a cluster of floating islands and recognized them as Golden Lion Shiki’s territory.

  • Wright told Crocodile that Nico Robin had escaped after leaving behind Baroque Works’ senior-agent list, and Crocodile laughed after reading her note.
  • Wright reported to Sengoku that Crocodile would be sent to Impel Down and that his Shichibukai title would be revoked.
  • Sengoku and Wright discussed the vacant Shichibukai position and the upcoming Elite Training Camp for Tashigi and Cavendish.
  • Wright took a spare Fourth Generation Beacon and flew from Marine Headquarters toward Jaya Island to search for Sky Island.
  • Wright crossed a massive cloud bank and discovered floating islands surrounding a snow-covered central peak, recognizing the sight as Golden Lion Shiki’s territory.

Ch. 256"Golden Lion" Shiki

Wright discovered Golden Lion Shiki’s hidden floating islands and recruited Smoker to help evacuate their inhabitants while he planned to destroy Shiki’s research and challenge him. Shiki remained unaware of Wright’s approach as Doctor Indigo showed him a gorilla with human-like intelligence.

  • Wright set up a Lightforged Beacon and summoned Smoker to the floating islands.
  • Wright explained Shiki’s threat and asked Smoker to locate the inhabited islands and guide their people to safety when the islands fell.
  • Smoker agreed to help and brought a Video Den Den Mushi to record the coming battle.
  • Wright planned to destroy Shiki’s research into hyper-evolved beasts before confronting him.
  • Doctor Indigo presented Shiki with a hyper-evolved gorilla whose intelligence was close to a human’s.

Ch. 257Come Out and Face Me!

Wright infiltrated Shiki’s palace and destroyed Indigo’s unfinished research facility and IQ cultivation chamber. Shiki realized Indigo had been attacked and went out to confront the intruder who challenged him.

  • Wright crossed Melville’s poisonous tree belt in disguise and watched Shiki and Indigo near the laboratory.
  • Indigo returned to his laboratory, where Wright ambushed him and knocked him unconscious.
  • Wright discovered that Indigo’s research was unfinished and caused a massive explosion that destroyed the laboratory and cultivation chamber.
  • Shiki read about Crocodile’s downfall and wondered whether Wright could heal the ship’s wheel lodged in his head.
  • A surveillance staff member told Shiki about the explosions and that Indigo could not be reached, and Shiki concluded that an intruder had attacked him.
  • Wright called Shiki out to face him, and Shiki left his throne in anger.

Ch. 258Aerial Battle

Wright fought Golden Lion Shiki above the floating island, matching his aerial attacks while Smoker recorded the battle and gathered the residents. Shiki offered Wright a place in his plan to rule the world, but Wright reminded him that he came from the East Blue, which Shiki intended to destroy.

  • Wright confronted Shiki outside the palace, and Shiki attacked him with lion-shaped blasts of snow and earth.
  • Wright took to the sky with his Holy Light Wings, and he and Shiki began an aerial battle of kicks and Flying Slashes.
  • Smoker watched the fight, identified Shiki, and left a Video Den Den Mushi recording them before flying off to gather the island residents.
  • Wright and Shiki exchanged powerful attacks, with Wright blocking Shiki's slash using a Holy Light Wall.
  • Shiki praised Wright's strength and offered to join forces to rule the world, but Wright said he came from the East Blue that Shiki wanted to destroy.

Ch. 259Wright vs. Shiki

Wright battled Shiki, whose precise swordsmanship and Float-Float Fruit powers pushed him into an increasingly dangerous fight. Shiki trapped Wright amid ten thousand earthen swords and sent Sakura Ten and Kogarashi streaking toward him in two golden attacks.

  • Wright rejected Shiki's offer to dwell on their shared East Blue origins and vowed that one of them would never fly again.
  • Wright blocked Shiki's successive slashes, then used Lightspeed and Holy Judgment to close in and strike at close range.
  • Shiki freed Sakura Ten and Kogarashi from his feet and controlled them through the air, wounding Wright with their Haki-coated attacks.
  • Shiki raised a colossal earthen sword coated in Haki, but Wright transformed Ashes and split it apart with Holy Light Wings and Bursting Flame.
  • Shiki turned the falling fragments into ten thousand swords and launched them at Wright while Sakura Ten and Kogarashi attacked from within the barrage.

Ch. 260Great Swordsman Showdown

Wright and Shiki fought an escalating aerial sword duel across Melville’s floating islands, with Wright using healing and Wrath of Vengeance to keep pace with the Golden Lion. After three days and nights of battle, Wright’s Observation Haki sensed something wrong with the Shiki in front of him.

  • Shiki trapped Wright inside a huge stone sphere, but Wright broke out with Holy Light Wall and healed his sword wounds with Holy Light.
  • Shiki and Wright resumed their duel, and Wright challenged Shiki to show the strength he had displayed against Garp and Sengoku.
  • Their battle spread across the floating island cluster as Smoker gathered the natives, who realized they had a chance to escape Shiki’s rule.
  • Wright used Wrath of Vengeance to match Shiki’s power and gradually extended its duration during their three-day battle.
  • Wright activated Wrath of Vengeance again and crossed blades with Shiki, then sensed through Observation Haki that something was wrong with the Shiki before him.

Ch. 261Legend Reappears

After the rudder’s effects weakened Shiki, he ripped it from his head and briefly regained his peak strength, though the damage threatened to kill him after the battle. Wright healed his injuries so Shiki could fight at full power, and Shiki unleashed the floating islands against him.

  • The rudder’s effects caused Shiki pain and dizziness, allowing Wright to gain the upper hand in their battle above Melville.
  • Shiki ripped the rudder from his head, unleashing his Conqueror’s Haki and restoring his full strength at the cost of his life.
  • Wright used a Holy Light Spell to heal Shiki’s external injuries, then challenged him to fight at his peak.
  • Shiki gathered Melville and nearby islands into a massive formation and hurled fragments at Wright as gigantic swords.
  • Wright used Secret Art: Conviction to slash through the storm of swords and emerge from the attack.

Ch. 262The Weight of a Legend

Wright and Shiki fought through the night as Wright used his healing and Observation Haki to adapt to Shiki’s peak-strength attacks. By morning, Wright had learned to counter Shiki’s slashes, and Shiki brought all the floating islands, including Melville, crashing down on him for a final battle.

  • Shiki attacked Wright with powerful sword techniques, while Smoker left the edge of Melville to protect the islanders after the Video Den Den Mushi stopped recording.
  • Shiki’s restored Observation Haki let him read Wright’s movements and wound him repeatedly, but Wright healed and kept fighting.
  • Wright closed his eyes and used Observation Haki to sense Shiki’s attacks, enduring the battle through the night as he improved his defenses and counters.
  • At sunrise, Wright began destroying Shiki’s guided slashes with Flying Slashes and challenged Shiki to settle the fight.
  • Shiki gathered the debris of every floating island, including Melville, and sent it crashing toward Wright while sheltering himself within it.
