"Save me, save me, save me... Kill me!!!"

"Hah!"

Thor opened his eyes and bolted upright.

"My lord, you're awake?" A boy hurriedly climbed up from the floor and leaned toward Thor.

"George?" Thor recognized him as the boy who had slept to his right.

In that large communal dormitory, George had been the only one who was remotely friendly toward Thor.

Thor had only inherited fragments of the original owner's memories after crossing over, and George had secretly told him many things about the Wizard Tower.

But afraid that the other boys would bully him by association, George had never dared speak to Thor in front of them.

Now, George wore a fawning smile as he picked up a bowl of soup.

"My lord, are you hungry? Shall I serve you your meal?"

Thor pushed the soup away.

"No. I'm not hungry. What time is it? How long was I unconscious?"

"My lord, you were unconscious for about an hour. It's eight in the morning... a little past eight." George turned to look at the Hourglass Clock on the wall, barely managing to make out the time.

Following George's gaze, Thor finally noticed that he was in a single bedroom.

A wooden bed five feet wide, two long desks, two high-backed chairs, and an empty bookcase occupying an entire wall—those were all the major furnishings in the room.

A blue Hourglass Clock hung on the wall as well.

The clock had markings on it, and the sand was currently just below the eight o'clock mark.

"This is... a Wizard Apprentice's room? I passed the test?" Thor felt a warm current rise from the bottom of his heart and slowly spread through his entire body.

Excitement, exhilaration, and the relief of surviving a disaster made him break into a foolish grin.

"Hehehe..." Seeing Thor smile, George hurried to join in. "Congratulations, my lord!"

Realizing he had lost his composure, Thor quickly wiped the expression from his face and coughed twice.

"George, why are you here?"

George immediately dropped to his knees and looked up. "My lord, the Butler told me to take care of you."

After Thor fainted, the Butler had sent him to an empty room on the sixth floor and allowed George, who had volunteered, to care for him until he woke up.

After hearing George's explanation, Thor fell into thought.

"Since I was sent to a Wizard Apprentice's room, my identity must have already been acknowledged. But unless something unexpected happened, my Magic Power talent is still very low. If I can't find a way to improve it, I'll probably remain a Level 1 Wizard Apprentice for the rest of my life."

He had avoided the Magic Power test by fainting, but that also meant Thor had no idea what his Magic Power talent was actually like.

He would have to find a chance to test it in secret.

The excitement of becoming a Wizard Apprentice and the worry over the hardships ahead left Thor deeply conflicted.

After a while, he let out a breath and finally noticed that George was still kneeling on the floor, looking at him eagerly.

"Uh, George, get up."

"My lord!" Seeing Thor return to his senses, George finally dared to speak. "My lord, please let me become your personal servant!"

"A personal servant?" Thor had no memories related to that.

George cautiously glanced at Thor's left hand, then quickly looked away.

"Yes, my lord. I've seen other Wizard Apprentices designate servants to attend to their daily needs. If you take me in, I'll serve you well."

Seeing Thor hesitate, George shuffled on his knees to the bedside and lowered his voice. "My lord, I can become your spy and help you keep an eye on Brown."

Brown? That boy who had always bullied him?

"My lord, I discovered that after you woke from your injury, Brown was called out twice. After that, he became even more arrogant than before. He even deliberately got everyone to gang up on you and assigned the corridor-cleaning duty at dawn, which was originally rotated among us, to you alone."

Thor's pupils suddenly contracted.

So those boys had not simply been bullying him. Someone had been directing them?

His left hand, hidden within his sleeve, slowly clenched into a fist.

Someone wanted me dead!

Seeing this, George knew that his information was useful to Thor and hurriedly continued, "My lord, I can help you investigate who is behind Brown."

Thor did not hesitate for long before shaking his head and refusing George.

"No. Don't make any moves." Thor paused before adding, "Just keep watch on Brown's actions every day, but don't investigate him yourself. As for becoming my personal servant, I'll ask the Butler once things on my end have settled down."

George was slightly disappointed, but quickly rallied. Straightening on his knees, he said, "I understand, my lord! If you need me, you can summon me at any time. George is willing to offer you his life!"

He was only twelve years old, yet his face was full of loyalty and fervor.

Thor did not take such empty grand words to heart. He waved George up, then asked, "Do you know what we're supposed to do after becoming Apprentices?"

This time, George shook his head blankly.

Of course. George had been summoned over afterward. Thor could not expect him to know everything.

Thor did not want George to stand out too much, so he sent him back first while he wandered around the room, seeing whether he could find any useful information.

He had fainted during the Wizard Apprentice test, after all, and might have missed a great deal of information.

Thor's room was a small single room, nothing like Kongsha's. Other than basic daily necessities, everything else was empty.

Thor found blank scrolls and a fountain pen beneath the long desk.

That meant he was allowed to study.

He held both items to his chest, pursed his lips, and began smiling again.

His precarious life as a servant was finally over.

He no longer had to worry every day about what form his death would take.

A wonderful future seemed within reach.

He knew his talent was actually poor. Being able to survive and become a Level 1 Apprentice was already fortunate.

"Even if I can't advance, that's fine. I'm willing to stay at this level until I die of old age."

"Knock, knock!"

Someone knocked on the door.

Thor composed his expression and hurried over to open it.

He had seen the person outside before. She was one of the two people tested ahead of him.

She was a freckled girl with braided hair, wearing a simple blue dress and carrying a stiff cloth shoulder bag on her back.

"I saw your servant leave, so I assumed you had woken up and came over to say hello." The freckled girl spoke without much expression, her head bobbing along with her words. "My name is Keli. I live next door, in room 603."

Taking the initiative to greet someone should have been a warm gesture, but Keli's expression was overly cold.

"Hello. I'm Thor."

Keli looked at the scrolls and pen in Thor's arms and gave a slight nod, as though in approval. "I came to find you for two reasons. First, your Mental Power talent is excellent, while my Magic Power talent is excellent. Excellent people should walk alongside excellent people."

Thor's mouth twitched.

"Second, among the people who came later, you were the only one who passed the test and survived."

Keli's words made Thor's heart sink.

Sure enough, all the servants who failed the test had died.

So if one's talent was insufficient, even an opportunity could become a disaster.

"I saw that your clothes were the same as the servants' clothes in the tower, so I deduced that you were all servants participating in the test. Since you were able to go from servant to Apprentice, your willpower must be quite strong."

Though Keli was praising him, Thor did not know why it failed to make him happy.

"That is why I came to befriend you."

Thor really wanted to ask, "Then why should I befriend you?"

But he held it in.
