Chapter 5: Guys, We're Having Xenomorphs
The pyramid was a triangular structure.
The farther down they explored, the longer it took, because the interior space grew larger.
Using the Subterranean Navigation Technique, Fang Xiu began at the second-floor armory and quickly swam downward.
When he reached the third floor, he estimated it was roughly three thousand square meters—about half the size of an international-standard soccer field.
There was no doubt the fourth floor was even larger. At the very bottom, the area would be vast.
"Click, click, click..."
At the base of the pyramid,
heavy stone slabs cracked open in sequence.
A mass of black chains dragged a huge monster upright.
Its entire body was covered in thick frost. It was the Alien Queen, who had slept for a hundred years and been forced to serve as a breeding machine again and again over the past several thousand years.
But now, forcibly awakened by lightning, the Queen had had enough of her enslaved life. Determined to change her circumstances, she threw back her head and let out a piercing roar.
As it happened... sound traveled far faster through solids than through air. Deep underground, Fang Xiu—who fancied himself a dragon-slaying hero—paused, adjusted his course, and headed even more precisely toward the sound.
"Clack!"
On the way, the sound of gears turning reached his ears again. The pyramid had turned into a maze, shifting chaotically like a Tesseract.
Fang Xiu knew exactly what that meant! Someone had tampered with the last Shoulder Cannon he'd left behind to buy time. It might have been a local, though a Yautja was less likely.
His temporary teammates... were the most likely culprits.
"Almost there. Nearly there."
"I have to seize my chance to shoot at a stationary target!"
Brushing aside the thought, Fang Xiu treated the thick stone slab in front of him as if it weren't there. Chakra surged through his body, and he plunged deeper like a shark.
The Sacrificial Chamber.
The sound of gears echoed around them. Sebastian had only just stepped inside and correctly translated the inscription on the stone slab when he looked up in confusion. "What's going on?"
Before he could finish speaking, every stone door around them slammed down. The dark-skinned woman serving as their guide reacted fastest, but even she couldn't escape in time.
Staring at the sealed chamber, the group looked at one another, at a loss for words.
Click, click, click!
A circular hole opened in front of each of the eight platforms holding bodies. Something shaped like an egg, half a meter tall, was pushed up through each one.
"What is that?"
"No idea."
The security personnel drew their large-caliber rifles and cautiously approached, keeping their eyes fixed on the strange eggs.
One second, two, three, four...
Perhaps they didn't want to destroy these mysterious objects, which might hold scientific value. No one pulled the trigger.
Then one of the female security officers seemed to realize something. She stared at Sebastian and pressed him, "What did you say this place was called?"
"The Sacrificial Chamber." The professor answered nervously. He, too, had begun to sense that something was wrong.
As if in silent response, the slimy objects—shaped much like dinosaur eggs—suddenly blossomed open like flower buds.
At the front, a man holding a rifle instinctively stepped back, but it was already too late. From the opening in the cracked shell leaped a monster with eight legs, a spider- or crab-like body, and a long tail.
They had already sensed the energy signatures around them and chosen their hosts...
"Ah! Mmph! Mmmph!"
The first Facehugger landed squarely on its target's face. It clamped all eight legs around him, then wrapped its tail around his neck to keep from falling off.
At the same time, it released a potent biological anesthetic.
One host after another collapsed, unconscious on the spot. The occasional gunshot was nothing more than a futile struggle.
And this was only the beginning. The conveyor belts beneath the stone beds began moving again. The old eggs were carried away, and fresh Xenomorph eggs immediately took their place.
Bang, bang, bang... In the Weapon Hall directly below, connected to the Sacrificial Chamber by a narrow ventilation shaft, the rookie Reincarnators heard the commotion and stopped arguing. Led by the burly Asian man in frog sunglasses, clutching the Plasma Pistol, they all sprinted toward the same direction.
Click, click, click!
But the gears kept shifting, and the rooms continuously rearranged themselves. Doors opened and closed, and the group's formation quickly fell apart. The Reincarnators were nearly forced to fight alone.
Rat-a-tat-tat... The three Yautja undergoing the trial could no longer remain calm. They quickened their pace and charged straight toward the armory.
Different factions, different mindsets.
The instant he ended the Subterranean Voyage, Lone Wolf Fang Xiu burst out like a shark breaching the sea, kicking up a cloud of sand.
Almost at the same moment, a dense rustling came from ahead, giving him no chance to catch his breath.
Facehuggers.
The slimy eggs writhed wildly!
Rat—Horse—Dog—Ox—Rabbit—Horse. He wasn't one of those sluggish locals who didn't know how to fight back when something got in their face. He formed the six seals flawlessly.
Jonin-level Chakra surged through his body along a set route. At its peak, Fang Xiu abruptly opened his mouth.
Fire Style: Phoenix Sage Fire Technique! Like the seeds of a touch-me-not flower bursting into the air at the slightest touch, flames shot from his mouth and scattered in every direction.
It was worth noting that every flame was controlled by Chakra, making them difficult to dodge completely.
Squeee!
Under the precise assault, dark green liquid sprayed everywhere. The Facehuggers still inside their eggs let out a shrill, unnerving chorus.
Of course, some Facehuggers broke free from their eggs at the very instant he released the ninjutsu.
But before their eight legs could fully unfold, Phoenix Sage Fire struck them down.
Their highly corrosive acid blood then evaporated in the intense heat.
Not a single threat could get anywhere near Fang Xiu.
But Fang Xiu didn't dare let his guard down. His hands formed seals so quickly that they left afterimages in the air. "Lightning Style: Four Pillar Bind!"
A rumble echoed through the bottom floor of the pyramid as four stone pillars wreathed in lightning rose from the ground.
Blue energy flashed between them, like serpents coiling through the air.
The giant eggs in the distance were paralyzed, unable to writhe or respond to the Alien Queen's roar. They gradually charred and lost their vitality...
—The Main God announced.
[Killed Facehugger * 45, earned 1,125 reward points]
The wristwatch updated in real time.
"I didn't get a side-story reward."
His voice carried a note of regret.
As he spoke, Fang Xiu leaped onto one of the stone pillars and lifted his eyes slightly, gazing at the gigantic creature before him—
The Queen.
The ruling class of Xenomorph society, capable of laying countless eggs to increase the population of her species.
But... her newborn guards had yet to crawl out of their hosts. For now, only a man and a beast stared at each other. The latter couldn't move freely—
She was bound by countless chains, shackles, and an enormous egg sac.
"Good thing you're bound to drop some loot."
Framed by the lightning, Fang Xiu stood tall and striking. But he didn't form seals to release the most powerful ninjutsu he could currently use—Majestic Destroyer Flame or Majestic Flame Destroyer Arrow.
Likewise, what appeared in his hands weren't Shuriken, but two plasma pistols...
Boom!!
As he pulled the triggers, a shockwave exploded, sending severed limbs and acid spraying everywhere.
