Kiyotaka settled Horikita into bed and pulled the covers over her. Seeing her eyelids droop, he said, “You look tired today. Get some sleep.”
“Mm...” Horikita answered softly, then drifted off.
Kiyotaka sat quietly beside her until she fell asleep. Then he frowned and asked inwardly, “Why hasn’t my conquest mission been completed?”
“Completion has not yet been detected. Please investigate on your own.”
Kiyotaka couldn’t be bothered to argue with it. That answer made it clear he would have to work out the completion conditions himself.
He glanced at Horikita’s peaceful sleeping face and sighed.
“I’ll just have to treat you better from now on.”
Once Horikita was sound asleep, Kiyotaka quietly left her dorm room and returned to his own.
As soon as he entered, he flopped onto the bed. The day had worn him out, too. All he wanted now was a good night’s sleep.
Chapter Six: Kiyotaka, Look!
Before he knew it, almost a month had passed since he arrived at the school. There were no classes today, so Kiyotaka lay in bed, unwilling to move.
Suddenly, he heard a click. Someone unlocked the door from outside.
Startled, Kiyotaka sat straight up. He stared speechlessly as Horikita walked in carrying a pile of groceries.
“How do you have a key to my room?” he asked.
Horikita first put her purchases in the kitchen, then turned to him with a proud expression.
“Hmph. Don’t forget, there’s nothing at this school you can’t buy with points. A mere key was easy enough. Besides, I only did this because you weren’t answering my calls.”
Kiyotaka paused. He liked to put his device on silent when he slept, so that must have been why he hadn’t heard it.
Later, Kiyotaka offered to take over the cooking.
“Get some rest. You bought groceries, didn’t you? I’ll make you something to eat.”
Horikita froze. Then disbelief gave way to delight.
“You said it, so no taking it back. Whoever goes back on their word is a jerk.”
Kiyotaka looked surprised for a moment, then his expression softened.
“Why would I lie to you? Just don’t complain if it tastes bad.”
“How could I complain? You’re the one making it. I’ll eat every last bite!”
“Mission complete. Horikita Suzune successfully won over. Reward: physical enhancement. Physical capabilities doubled. Beginning the next conquest mission. Target: Kushida Kikyou.”
At Horikita’s declaration, the voice in his head spoke again for the first time in a while.
Kiyotaka breathed a sigh of relief. He had finally completed a mission. He was also curious about the reward: his physical capabilities had doubled.
Shaking off his wandering thoughts, Kiyotaka considered his next target, Kushida Kikyou. What kind of girl was she, really?
He hoped she wouldn’t turn out to be another troublesome one. All he wanted was freedom, not to waste too much time on things like this.
He wasn’t asking for much. Someone as easy to placate and fool as Horikita would do.
Poor Horikita. Without realizing it, she had already been labeled gullible by Kiyotaka.
Chapter Seven: Coincidence
After resting for a while, Kiyotaka went into the kitchen to cook.
Later, he tucked Horikita into bed and brushed her hair gently.
“Don’t overthink things. Get some sleep. If I don’t start cooking soon, dinner will turn into a midnight snack.”
Once Horikita had drifted off, Kiyotaka returned to the kitchen.
“A third mission target has been detected. Would you like to accept this mission concurrently?”
At the voice in his head, Kiyotaka stopped what he was doing. After considering it briefly, he decided to accept.
“Yes.”
“Mission accepted. Target: Sakura Airi.”
“Sakura Airi... I remember her being pretty inconspicuous in class. But she’s probably done something to disguise her appearance.”
Hearing the name, Kiyotaka thought for a moment and recalled what he knew about her.
